charles48864
Have you went to control panel, device and printers. Right click your printer and check option there? Was this an upgrade or clean install. Was the printer connected to the pc when you installed win7? Is this a USB printer? Did you install the printer software before connecting the printer to the pc? charles48864
I guess you tried the compatibility mode already. This is another printer but the install could also work here. check the post at the bottom of the page. Note the 601 to tell the system this is a windows 7 drivers. http://h30434.www3.hp.com/psg/board/messag...message.id=2945

charles48864
This most time I see this problem is when the printer is plug in to the pc before the drivers are installed. Windows has drivers in the windows/inf file and will install them if it finds new hardware if it can match the ven number. What we use to do was remove the windows inf file from the inf folder so when you plug in a device and windows tried to install it,it could not find a driver so it would ask for it. This way you could install the driver you wanted to. If you look in windows inf folder you can see if the device is listed there. I think in the printer if it can not find the driver or if the printer is not supported it installs nostandard drivers. One list from an inf in the windows inf folder. charles48864
Forgot to ask was this printer plug in to the pc when the OS was installed? imacken
I'm having the exact same problem as the other posters. Whenever I connect my Epson R220, Windows 7 sees it as Epson ESC /P. I can install the Vista drivers and get the printer to work as a R220 until I disconnect it or shut down. On restart (or switch on), it just comes back up as ESC/P. Has anyone found a solution to this yet? Update: I got it to work using the method mentioned above, i.e. extracting the exe and running the setup in Vista mode. I had tried before with running the driver exe in Vista mode but that didn't work. Oh well. Edited May 24, 2009 by imacken

That's odd... as I said, I also got an R220 and just normally installed the Vista drivers (no extracting, no Vista mode or anything), then connected the printer when setup told me, and everything went fine. I've then set the R200 as default, and it always kept it that way.
LuckyKnight
Windows 7 has built in drivers for the R220. I used the ones provided by Epson anyway - by manually choosing the driver disk after it was installed. First time I installed Windows 7.
