Empire: Total War is "Astonishing"

I take it you guys haven't played Age of Conan (it's like 20 or 25 gigs) or some of the other newer games these days eh? Heh, 14 gigs isn't that bad considering.

An MMO is bigger most of the time then an RTS, and I have played each new game for the PC the last year, 14 is quite large.

Sailing along with some awesome reviews also - http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/pc/empiretotalwar

This game made me buy a 9800GTX+ to upgrade my 7600GT

My consoles give me some kick ass games, but they'll never even come close to the quality of strategy games on the PC.

It would be a waste of money if you don't have Quad core with 2.66 GHz and 8800 GTX with 4Gigs of RAM. The game requirements are too high for this game that don't even make full use of PhysX engine. After watching the video of the game play, I am convinced it's no where near "Astonishing".

Can we buy a legit cheaper CD key only somewhere and then use Steam to download the files?

Since when could you ever do that with any game?

you do realize its not 1995 and storage space isn't an issue right? and for how much is in this game 11 gigs seems like nothing to me.

No I didn't get that memo. And do keep me updated on what else seems like nothing to you. I've always enjoed RTS on laptops and they're idiots if they thinking of turning that genre into high spec only.

I hope Blizzard keeps that in mind for SC2.

So they're idiots now for making a great game, I guess you can never make some people happy.

cant even get the demo to run on steam it just seems to hang on the Copyright splash screen any ideas

That screen can take a while to move on.

The recent patch cuts down load times a fair bit, but the demo will be vanilla 1.0 build. Leave it for a minute or two.

I'd love to try the smoke mod but;

"nice but its a major fps killer especially when using organ guns."

Game is already a system eater, so I'll pass. Not that that game isn't running great on my system maxed out but no need to climb another step down the ladder.

Played a little bit of the demo earlier it was pretty fun but not really something I could see myself investing a lot of time into, shall be giving it another go later and having a think :p

They give you a flask and a compass? That has to be the two most useful items a videogame package has EVER included. Period. I doubt I'd want to be seen with an Empire: Total War flask, but still, cool items. A

Try running it in Windowed Mode, I can't play the game in full screen it hard locks my PC and forces me to restart. Supposedly a bug with game code and the nVidia Drivers, think I read somewhere that if you run with 182.11 (think thats the correct driver version) it shouldn't hard lock, but I just play windowed instead.

Just did a quick bit of research, it's driver version 181.20 that is recommended.

EDIT

Ok just reverted my graphic card drivers from 182.08 to 181.20 and I can now play full screen without it alt+tabbing constantly without me pressing alt+tab and also stopped the game hard locking my system.

Driver Version: 181.20

Graphics Card: GeForce 8800GT 512MB
