KeeperOfThePizza
I remember people using the Classic style more than anything and soon as Vista hit's people hate it. I never understood cause it's completely the same as xp's version minus the new start logo. I dont find it ugly at all.
+Frank B. Subscriber² Posted February 28, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted February 28, 2009 Because the Classic theme and the Vista/7 UI don't go together well. Look at an Explorer window - hideous back/forward buttons, grey background for the breadcrumb bar (why MS, why?). Or in 7 look at the 'superbar' when using Classic - it's just fugly. It was ugly in XP as well. it never was particularly "pretty" ever though. But back in the win95 days we where just happy to have a GUI :)
Prince Charming
Because it is ugly. It doesn't look right, the UI elements don't fit well together, blah blah, it's just not nice to look at.
Guest GraphiteCube
In new start menu, you can click on My Documents/ Music/ Computer to navigate to different folders very quickly. Using the classic start menu in new systems is so painful to me.

tiagosilva29
I like old/"grey boxy". That's what I always use. Maybe because I am used to GNOME and the old Windows.
Hardcore Til I Die
I remember people using the Classic style more than anything and soon as Vista hit's people hate it. I never understood cause it's completely the same as xp's version minus the new start logo. I dont find it ugly at all. XP came with a very ugly fat blue theme as default, and the other themes included weren't that great either. Which made classic my theme of choice for XP (until I discovered Royale). Vista comes with a very nice looking UI, and going back to classic after Aero = ugh.
blehbleh
Because it is ugly, why people use it in xp is because the teletubbies-theme is even uglier (even though it can be made pretty ok if you scale down the title-bar).
kawasabi
Vista comes with a very nice looking UI Right... The UI (aero & basic) is the most horrid thing on Vista. Classic is alright though.

fix-this!
without aero it looks like crap. xp standard looks like crap too. this is why i go for custom visual styles.
Chris-Gonzales
It looked fine in XP, then came vista and it was alright, but in windows 7 it looks sick. Over size buttons and pixeleated graphics. YUCK I hope that classic will be replaced with a new "pro" theme. (a cross between the expression blend UI, the office 2007 black theme and the wave 2 style of live services It CAN be done, if Microsoft wants to do it. StealMySoda
I guess people have become 'snobbish'. Aero looks great, and going back to something that looks exactly the same as windows 95 I guess is below them :p Wait, I just called myself a snob xD
Chris-Gonzales
Because it is. Its a horrible blue shade... We are talking about Windows classic here Just to show how ugly it is. and I also agree that aero basic is ugly (what your talking about)
tiagosilva29
That's the Windows 7 classic look? What happened with the classic start menu?
Chris-Gonzales
I guess people have become 'snobbish'. Aero looks great, and going back to something that looks exactly the same as windows 95 I guess is below them :p Wait, I just called myself a snob xD Vista included windows "classic" witch was the old 95 and 98 theme. as well as Windows standard, the 2000 theme. Windows 7 now just has "classic", the old 2000 theme. The diference between the two is the 9x theme had a darker gray windows and darker blue title bar, and the 2000 was a lot ligher. That's the Windows 7 classic look? What happened with the classic star menu? they removed it from Windows 7. also, in vista, and XP, if you chose to have the classic UI, that doesnt mean you get the classic start menu. For that, you had to go in to the start menu properties.

Chris-Gonzales
Wow it really does look horrible on 7. Theres so much wrong with classic in windows 7. Here are some of the submissions on the windows 7 taskforce regarding this: Classic looks like ---- Shut down button in classic New Pro theme
HawkMan
Why do they need a new "pro" theme. just use Aero like everyone else. there's no need to maintain multiple themes, it's a waste of resources, classic so far survives because they can still use basic ontrols without doing extra work. If in the future the windows themes get too advanced to fall back directly on basic controls so more work is needed to make clasic work, expect classic to simply dissapear. There's no need for a "pro" theme, a low color grey basic controls theme doesn't make you pro.
Lee G. That should only belong in Windows 3.x!
Hardcore Til I Die
Right...The UI (aero & basic) is the most horrid thing on Vista. Classic is alright though. I love aero! The only thing I don't like is that most of the software I install comes with icons that are kinda mismatched - they don't fit in with the "glass" effect.
