America's Army 3.0 to be distributed by Steam

Recommended Posts

A former Dev explained conditions about development on the official forums.

I don't expect AA3 to become any better. I think I'll just delete it and forget about it, maybe play AA 2.8.5 as I'm sure many other people will continue to do.

I want to play AA 2.8, but can't find where to sign up or download. :(

one of the devs that were let go, just wrote this:

Almost fell sorry for the fella.

Why almost? He could've quit, but instead he chose to keep on working to try and make the best of what resources he had (along with some other Devs). Although they probably could've just handled the situation better by somehow getting more time, by threatening to quit or something. Or maybe they should've just quit seeing as their labored efforts are more or less fruitless as of yet.

I realize if you are a gamer, you rightly expect a game to work. period. But I would ask that you imagine for a second that you actually DON?T understand what it takes to make this particular game, and you really don?t understand the many obstacles that were placed in front of the Devs? in nerdy terms: A Kobiyashi maru.

<(Y)/>(Y)

Imagine that gamers dont understand what it takes to make a game haha, many dont and act like they do.

That Dev's post (or just the section I quoted) should be pinned in "Gamers' Hangout".

Yeah it is sad state of affairs for the devs. I can only assume that they US Army also handles its military operations with such arrogance and idiots in charge. For a game that is supposed to help recruit and impress people it sure isn't doing a great job, which I don't blame the devs for. The US army should of just asked some reputable company to build it for them such as EA, Activision etc. Red tape complicates everything sadly.

Sounds like a load of whiners to me trying to damage control why they released such a buggy game.

And I totally agree with the above, sounds like one big excuse for releasing this thrash.

Well, DICE started the Battlefield series and they were bought by EA just in time for the release of 1942. So yes, it has the EA name, made by now-EA Employees but it wasn't a product of EA creativity, now they are just riding the money-wave. I do agree however, would have been so much better to outsource the development of the game, even to an EA-owned developer because the game and the launch of the game hasn't impressed so far.

3.20GHz with HT, 1GB of RAM, 9600GT = 10FPS (Everything on low with all the drviers updated) :(

Wow that's weird. That would be the game not your comp :(

Yes I know DICE started did 1942 but EA has faithfully continued it and didn't just buy the rights either so EA still has my loyalty :p.

So is this game actually good? I mean I beta tested it one time and the lag was so horrible I couldn't play. It wasn't the server I was in because I joined 2 other's just to make sure. I am not judging the game by that though, because it could have just been a problem that day, or with some update. But haven't tried it since.

It's not really is it good or bad, it's a "does it even work"? Logging into the authentication servers is the big problem. Bugs with the game do exist, but right now the majority of the problems are server-side. Hopefully they can sort this crap out. I'll leave it installed on Steam, but won't touch it until I hear of improvements.

The game works fine once the auth servers are good, but im having problems unlocking stuff with the points i got, it doens't seem to want to unlock at all.

Guess we can just wait for that hot fix, i hope 'soon' is like 'very soon' and not 1 month or so.

Logging works fine for me now. No point doing training because it isn't being recorded by auth server sadly.

For anyone interesting someone created a no honor server (aka doesn't require server to use auth) Was about 10 ppl playing when I was in. Was fairly stable and for a server hosted in Canada a ping of 60 from me was impressive.

If your interested the ip is 70.68.18.225

This is nice, as i really like Americas Army Online and many gamer kids just abort the game cause of its training missions, you need to do, before getting into a match, and more players are always good :)

Americas Army has a nice level of realism coupled with a visible player level that helps to distribute the special op jobs and see if a player is going to be a hard oponent ;)
