America's Army 3.0 to be distributed by Steam

Hopefully you get to pick the enemy team this time around, instead of always playing as the Americans and the opposing team is just replaced with OpFor textures :s

I highly doubt it. The whole point is that your playing as an American soldier. If you want enemy weapons, time to go weapon shopping :p

The amount of times I died weapon shopping for an RPK xD

Besides I like the idea that your always the good guy. Other than the fact you KNOW that the weapons are exactly equal. It's just easier for new players as well. As they wont have to learn two different (sets of) skins.

I know but it's still a game, I don't think I have ever made a single online kill with an enemy weapon in the previous AA versions because of that stupid system. The game would be beyond brilliant if they decided to let you pick a faction, instead of this "Alpha / Bravo" crap and you get to use the same 2 weapons constantly.

I'd always choose the RPK, even over an SF gun.

I kinda agree with you though. When they made the changes which made shooting from the hip a lot less accurate and using sights a lot more accurate, they also made it so that you 'combat effectiveness meter' was much lower when utilizing an opFor weapon. Which I think is a bit extreme.

Besides, who knows, maybe we'll get a few more classes this time around. And hopefully they will get rid of that ****ty 'B' class that nobody wanted to be on hospital.

Which reminds me. You can play as 'opfor' on most SF maps. Sure your either using an RPK or an unmodded ak74, but it still counts :p

That's because the job of a Special Forces soldier is to train the locals to fight for a united cause. Even now in Afghanistan Special Forces are holding meetings with tribal leaders to help repel the Taliban in their villages.

it requires PB still right? :|

So this means i'll have to decide on if its worth downgrading back to Vista from 7 so i'll be able to play it. :| hmmm

It won't work on Win 7?

Anyways, I can't wait to play AA 3.0. SF Hospital and SF Pipeline and even Bridge are going to be fantastic maps.

PB works since RC1.

What is the level of realism in AA?

AA isn't really aimed at realism. It's about teamwork, which means no friendly fire allowed and constant radio chatter.

Excuse me? I played close to a 100 hours all the way up to AA 2.8.5 Overmatch (stopped playing two and a half years ago because better multiplayer games came out). There's nothing realistic about the game. You get tired when you sprint, you die in three or four shots (with a soldier fading from green to red) or you can bleed to death. There's no way in the world that AA 3.0 can simulate a soldier's experience in field combat by pressing keys on a keyboard.

It's like calling CoD 4 or Battlefield 2 (when it came out alongside AA 2.5) realistic when they aren't. Enlighten me with your expertise in this game, o geeky one.

I barley played AA maybe 2-3 hours cause my computer sucked when I first played it

but I wont ever compare cod4 and AA they are no where near similar

Why would you even compare cod4 with aa if you ever actually played it?

I'm a casual gamer. I don't see what's wrong with comparing two multiplayer military based first person shooters... They're not apples and oranges. I can compare UT3 and TF2 and say one was more fun than the other because they're both team based first person multiplayer shooters.

100 hours? Oh NO. I played over 1,000 hours, not including matches/non public servers. What's your point?

Just because you don't bleed in real life when you get shot, doesn't mean a game isn't realistic. The point is AA strives to be as realistic as possible while remaining fun.

Whatever floats your boat. I don't know why you're trying to show off you e-peen here. All I said was that AA isn't geared towards realism. It's a promotional tool for the US Army and they have explicitly said in forums that they want to keep teamwork as one of the most important features of the game, which keeps it in line with the lifestyle the US Army wants its soldiers to lead.

Stay classy, stealmysoda.

In terms of realism of first person shooters, it is one of the most realistic, you can't compare any computer game to the realism experienced in real life.

Yes, America's Army does focus on realistic aspects compared to other First Person Shooters, calling the game flat out realistic is borderline laughable. It's meant to be a recruitment tool for younger people, they don't like a dry, hardcore military simulator. So this is basically just a polished twitch shooter like Counter-strike with certain military elements to give it some credibility.
