Minimoose
Yes, America's Army does focus on realistic aspects compared to other First Person Shooters, calling the game flat out realistic is borderline laughable. It's meant to be a recruitment tool for younger people, they don't like a dry, hardcore military simulator. So this is basically just a polished twitch shooter like Counter-strike with certain military elements to give it some credibility. True, but if it's fun, i'm not complaining. I might as well give it a go.
Pupik
So, how much does the preload weights? I'm asking, because I'm getting way too ****ty speeds (like always with Steam) and so far, the download takes far too long. How much longer am I suppose to leave the PC on? GrimReeper
Wow I guess I'm a bit late to the party but I still haven't missed the boat. I didn't play much AA2 since my system couldn't handle it back then. Never the less I have reserved my name for AA3 even though it comes out in 2 days :p Starting from scratch will be good for me since I hadn't completed much of the training in AA2 :p
StealMySoda
Whatever floats your boat. I don't know why you're trying to show off you e-peen here. All I said was that AA isn't geared towards realism. It's a promotional tool for the US Army and they have explicitly said in forums that they want to keep teamwork as one of the most important features of the game, which keeps it in line with the lifestyle the US Army wants its soldiers to lead. Stay classy, stealmysoda. I'm not showing me 'epeen'. I'm simply trying to say, that no game is EVER going to be TOTALLY realistic, the only way you'll get a 100% realistic game is if you actually sign up for the army (then of course it's not actually a game). As far as games go, it strives to be realistic while keeping it fun. Use of teamwork is one of those things that goes towards making it realistic. As Sethos has said, a truly realistic game is laughable. AA is counter strike + then some. In comparison to other games, it is one step closer to realism. How much longer am I suppose to leave the PC on? according to my calculations , assuming you will be downloading at your current rate all the time, you still have abit over 220 hours left for the download to finish since the picture was taken... Richard Hammond
It wont take him a week and a half to download 1.7Gb. Assuming he downloads full 215kb/s it will take him 3-4 hours max
Sandor
Will download and try this out. Always interested in good shooters. With steam it might get a lot more players.

That's what I'm hoping too. I'm wishing for the same sort of competitive community that 2.x had before the fail versions ruined the games for a lot of players. LOC Veteran Posted June 16, 2009 Veteran Share Posted June 16, 2009 Just downloaded it :) Took me 10 minutes. Wait a tick, AA3 is like 4 gigs. I wasn't aware Australia had that kinda net connection available? If you downloaded 4 gigs in 10 minutes, I'm officially moving to Sydney or Perth. Also I wasn't downloading it from overseas I was downloading from local servers. If I were to get it off US servers it would have taken forever and if I play on US servers obviously ping is like 300+ but locally ping is <100 and sometimes <10. Well I figured it was a local Aussie server, I doubt you'd ever be able to get your max speeds off an American file server :D But still, 4 gigs in 10 minutes is fast as hell. I'm on 12 mb Comcast here and I'll do 4 gigs in roughly 40 mins or so, give or take.

Sethos
Don't you have to train before combat anyways? I believe you could do get into a game by using a "Play Now" option back in the older games, yet the choice of levels and classes were slim. Konstanov
Don't you have to train before combat anyways? No, but if you skip training you don't get to use all the various things unlocked in training. Minifig
Hell is that O.o This, soldier, is an M249 SEMI AUTOMATIC WEAPON, or SAW. An M249 Softbag is a device used by an M249 handler to stabilize and control the gun while it fires, as it fires 750-1,000 rounds per minute. .. sorry. Flash backs to basic training. Sethos
Yeah, I know what an M249 is :p Was only referring to the Soft Bag, not something I ever heard of despite being a weapon nut :p Thanks for the clarification though.
