HexFlash
Mozilla Minefield is the future of the firefox web browser. It has a completely re-written javascript engine called tracemonkey that is up to 10% faster than Google's Chrome. It is currently availible on Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X Minefield's Homepage - http://www.mozilla.org/projects/minefield/ What's New - New Privacy Browsing Mode similar to chrome's Incognito - New JavaScript Engine "Tracemonkey" Download - ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/nightly/latest-trunk/ (If on Windows, download the .exe) ***Copy and Paste Into the Address Bar*** Score 9.5/10 (Still in Alpha Stages, still a bit buggy.) The_Decryptor Veteran Posted March 5, 2009 Veteran Share Posted March 5, 2009 Ehh, it's just a nightly build of Firefox, and TraceMonkey is in 3.1 What I am wondering about is why yours says 4.0a1pre, I updated to the latest nightly 20 minutes or so ago and it says 3.2a1pre. The_Decryptor Veteran Posted March 5, 2009 Veteran Share Posted March 5, 2009 Oh yeah, that's from March last year, it must have been after they branched off to finish 3.0 but before they decided to make 3.1.
Kreuger
So the only difference is the JS engine?
Neyht Member Posted March 5, 2009 Member Share Posted March 5, 2009 Speed differences with google's chrome browser is ...... arguable. You should probably pit a nightly build of firefox against an hourly build of chromium. Though the trunk builds of firefox are a little bit faster than the 3.1 betas .... I think. This certainly is legit, but looks like Mozilla pulled it down fast. Apparently a bunch of other sites were also able to download and take a look at it while it was up. Sorry I'm new here and don't really know my way around, but isn't that was this board is for? To be realistic, this really isn't a review. Tt does not look any different than 3.1. If there was a list of features or a change log posted, then it is worth calling it a "review" of sorts.

Quillz
I'm running Minefield right now on Win7 and it's quite fast. Faster than both IE8 and Firefox 3.0 for me, with a stock installation and no extensions.
Nemo Live
This is like the 3rd time I've seen people confuse Minefield as some sorta experimental or secret Mozilla Browser. Anyways, I recommend using the Nightly Tester Tools addon. It helps enabling older add-ons, provides leak logs and other info that will help in any feedback you might provide to Mozilla. For those of you on 7. Here's the modified Glasser that works with the current nightlies. x86 http://cid-a9f00aad9792204c.skydrive.live....0-fx%7C_mod.xpi Edited March 8, 2009 by ifart

Faster than both IE8 and Firefox 3.0 for me, with a stock installation and no extensions. I have been using Shiretoko for months now, until recently I switched over to Chromium. I have to admit, I was one of those people who scoffed at initial predictions that Chrome could have something like 10 or even 20% market share by 2011. Chromium is noticeably faster than Shiretoko or Minefield barebones. Once they put addon support, this browser has a lot of potential and will own some serious market share. For years, Firefox was ahead of everyone, but now they sort of fumbled it with 3.1 hitting multiple delays due to Tracemonkey not being fully debugged. Guess we will have to see if Mozilla can 1-up Google Chrome with 4.0 for next year.

Echilon
I tried Minefield but it broke too many of my plugins. The big attraction for me was removing the *32 after the process name in TaskManager. ;)
Jase
I love minefield!! My only problem is tab management - I hate how you can switch tabs but only to recent tabs, and that new preview window is annoying! Anyone know how to make tab switching normal? The big attraction for me was removing the *32 after the process name in TaskManager. ;) Minefield is still 32bit, they are only building 64bit versions for Linux. You were using a custom build by somebody who didn't bother to make a name up.

Isn't Minefield supposed to be 64-bit? I never found a *32 next to the process on my 64-bit system. I enjoy its 64-bit native, however, due to the lack of plug-ins--including Adobe Flash Player--I prefer using another browser. hdood
No, there is no 64-bit version of Firefox/Minefield for any platform. If you have one, it is a custom version compiled by a third party.
