Laptop versions of these chipsets may work but are not supported. Updates to your video and sound card drivers may be required. http://www.nfsplanet.com/index2.php?lang=eng#5195 Like a mountain road just begging to be driven, the Need for Speed franchise has had its highs and lows since its 1994 debut on 3DO. It seemed poised to leap straight off the map following last year's lackluster Undercover; there were even rumors the series was being handed over to the Burnout Paradise team for CPR. ... We recently got our hands on SHIFT, a racer that's got the makings to potentially rival the likes of Codemaster's GRID. Developed by UK-based Slightly Mad Studios -- home to many of the folks who worked on the critically acclaimed GT Legends and GTR 2 -- the game is 95% pure racing simulation, with a bit of arcade feel thrown in so as not to totally alienate players who aren't actual race drivers. (Though EA Games Euro SVP, Patrick Soderlund, is intimately involved with its development -- and he races for real, having most recently placed fifth in the TOYO 24 Hours of Dubai endurance event.) The game 95% pure racing simulationb>, with a bit of arcade feel thrown in. ...So far we can point to two things: the focus on the "driver experience" (more on that in a sec) and really good opponent A.I. (ditto). ... detailed cockpit viewWorking gauges, hands on the wheelb> -- the usual. There's an extra layer of pretty in the form of realtime reflections from within the car. For instance, <you can see your driver model's movements in the driver's side windowb>. Another neat touch: the driver actually grips the wheel more tightly at the appropriate moments. This level of detail is important because Soderlund and the dev team want this to be a racer that is, first and foremost, played from inside the car. ...In an early -- but still extremely powerful -- Pagani Zonda, the sense of speed was pulse-quickening. That was combined wit opponents who realistically fought for positions, nudged back and would even slip up under pressure, causing a wreckb:devil:l: . This didn't only happen when we were "engaging" them; at one point, we came around a turn into a straight-away and narrowly missed a pileup that had occurred moments earlier out of our view. ... Even in its early stat SHIFT feels really goodb>. The cars seem to have appropriate weight and noticeable performance differences. ... read the whole article - http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/04/joystiq-...or-speed-shift/ Pics... more pics ============================ my thoughts... awesome graphic:o:o framerate is steady to:o:o no need for NFS to compete against the PRO's, i.e., GTR2 & the likes. just give us the NEED for SPEED!!! cockpit camera is making a comeback after NFS Poprsche Unleashed, right? DAMN!!! what a comeback! and what i'd like to see in AI is that they dont become DUMB as soon as we overtake them, a annoying thing in GTR2. as soon as you pass the AI, it gets slower, by next 3-4 laps the gap gets upto 15 seconds. Race Tracks - please give us back the point to point race & not these "street circuits". like some action in Alps, Italy... <take a look at this articleb> - http://www.redlineblog.com/top-gears-world...road-in-detail/ driving a Zonda at Nordschleife wud be much more freaking fun, escpecially at the long straight:o:o driving it in a crampy street circuit will get boring. a reasons why i hate GRiD. Sethos
Certainly looks like it's sticking to the EA mentality: Milk and add blur.
+John. Subscriber¹ Posted March 5, 2009 Subscriber¹ Share Posted March 5, 2009 Apparently still a bit of milk left in the NFS cash cow. Ah well, I'm expecting exactly the same as before. Mixed, often mediocre reviews, and an ultimately forgettable game.
Snakehn
looks good, i hope it doesn't turn out like "Pro Streets"

san.W10
yeah! give us 'point to point' tracks with cops :D this is not the right time to release a Grid like game. just remake NFS PU/5 with more cars, tracks & most importantly "FACTORY DRIVER" missions. damn, i hope they add some new career mode like "FACTORY DRIVER" from NFS5. most wanted's "challenge" series was boring, didnt play it after #25/26 mission. HideAndGoatse
I agree with the others about the needs for cops. Why can't EA just listen to the people who play these games, all we want are epic police chases in fast cars doing 100+ mph weaving through traffic, slap these graphics on it and call it NFS: Get away. I don't see why they can't have tracks AND free worlds, doesn't make sense. Just give us what we want, it's not that hard!
Doli
This might turn out to be good. I like the cockpit view and the "driver experience" they are shooting for. I hope this game stays cockpit view only and kills third person view.
ViZioN
If this game turns out to be as good as Grid in certain ways but still acting like the older Need for Speed games, I'll be very happy!
Xerxes
Can't say I'm impressed, personally they are going in the wrong direction with this....NFS was never been about Touring cars etc nor should it be, if I want to race purpose built race cars I've got games like Race Driver: GRID to play. NFS made it's name with epic police chases, I want more of that. Yes in the eyes of many Undercover was an epic failure but for me it was more the engine that failed then the actual game, if it didn't slow down to a crawl so often it would of been far more enjoyable. Also the screenshots mean nothing, we've been down this road before with NFS. The game looked awesome in the screenies but when it came to seeing it actually run it was appalling and going by the screenies it looks like they are possibly using the same aging engine from Undercover, with just more blur to hide the problems (but I could be wrong and hope I am). however, this is only what I think so take with a grain of salt. -KJ
nfs for me was racing from cops. this is not an nfs. NFS has been having a bit of an identity crisis recently. This is a total u-turn for the franchise, though.
sundayx Veteran Posted March 6, 2009 Veteran Share Posted March 6, 2009 Fool me once. Shame on you. Fool me twice. Shame on me. No you fool you can't get fooled again. Whatever hype NFS has, it'll come out crappy. Unless I am proven wrong (please EA), it'll always be true.

There are a few NFS games coming out, this is for the simulation people its being made by the same people that made GTR2 so it will probably be a modified version of their engine not Undercovers engine. Need for Speed Nitro which is for the Wii, Need for Speed World Online for the casual free to play but with microtransactions market and a 4th street racer classic NFS action game. carmatic
driving a Zonda at Nordschleife wud be much more freaking fun, escpecially at the long straight. ohmy.gifdriving it in a crampy street circuit will get boring. a reasons why i hate GRiD. but thats the thing about the Zonda tho, its a maneuvering car, thats why it makes sense to pair it with a tight winding track... if you want to take long straights might as well do it in a Veyron or SSC Aero or something if they put that in the game?? and yeah, i think its about time NFS went back to being realistic, and stopped being so 'stylish' and arcadey... with realism, you can use skill to look stylish, but not the other way round... it will be interesting to see the same car in the different NFS games , and how differently it handles according to those games... Nordschleife is all in one track, longest straight, uphill corners, hairpins, downhill.... driving Zonda or a ferrari at some street track will seriously be boring. just like F1 Singapore 2008, i fell asleep half thru the race  whats the use of driving a Zonda if you cant red-line it  EA... NO. ex-simbin dudes give us some legendary tracks to race on & EA you better let them make this game mod friendly  read this & give us some from it :p i'd love to see "Stelvio Pass" & "San Bernardino Pass"
