Recommended Posts

Yeah this game looks like it will keep everyone entertained until Forza 3 is released..then we will probably never play Shift again :D

Totally nailed how EA wants you to see it I guess.

this game is awesome!!! i bought a civic and it looks exactly like mine (the interior and everything), which makes me get into this game even more. Hands down better then drift, handling is realistic which a touch of arcade (well not really arcadey but a bit forgiving) but so far i'm having a blast. It actually feels like you are driving the car. The graphics are top notch too (Y) (Y)

only beef is that it has every 5zigen series rims except for mine :( even midnight club LA had them :( So i can't make the civic look exactly like my car

soo pretty...

I hate you DM :[

Got to tier 3 cars and... They all drive like they want to be in the next 2F2F: Tokyo Drift. Even a dabble of throttle and your arse end is hanging out. The Bugati. Oh the Bugati. It goes like a cruise missile but handles like a shopping trolley! I've had to slow to a crawl to make it through most corners else I'm sliding about like I'm on oil.

Looks like I'm going to have to crank up the assistance to max if I want to continue to play on a pad. ARGH!

I'm guessing it's because you're driving rear-wheel drive cars. That's how they're supposed to behave if you slam the throttle. Most lower tier cars are going to be front-wheel drive. Sounds like the game is working exactly like it's supposed to. Of course I can't confirm this because I didn't pirate the game.

I wouldn't call an average 9/10 a failure, according to the first reviews, I'm just glad they're returning a bit to the franchise roots, after all, nfs didn't born with underground, also, they're planning an open world style of game, it is called nfs world online, but so far they'll be testing it in asia first

Yeah anyone calling it a failure, is themselves a failure.

Maybe it's just me or does it feel like Forza's more exciting brother? Not that there's anything wrong with Forza, I just foresee if I want to grab a racer for a quick bash this would be it. So as you'd expect it still doesn't feel like a NFS game. Though it's a huge amount of publicity for a new studio who, frankly, deserve that attention now I've played this. :p

I can't wait to get my hands on the faster cars, I'm already biting my lip going in to corners in a BMW M3! :s

My first car was rear wheel. Read what I put again:

"Even a dabble of throttle"

I hit the apex, slowly bring on the throttle and YEHAW someone turns on the Dukes of Hazzard setting. It appears to overly heavy handed on the pad. Not to mention it's difficult to take the corners conservatively as the AI is more than happy to use you as a breaking device as you attempt to get about.

Aha! Semi-bump after fiddling about a bit with the car I went back to the settings and cranked up the traction control to 11. Sorted out the sliding problems on most of the cars. It goes require a tonne of patience later on though to tune and modify your car to get it to play nice with a pad. With no test settings it makes life mighty difficult. Worse when you consider the 25 seconds loading screen AFTER I installed it. :|

But still the Bugati bucks like a mule. It feels like you're fighting the car rather than the other racers!

Um, does anyone know where Sethos' medication is?

Seriously though, you're overreacting. Carbon was alright, even though it did mark the start of the downfall of the series. Undercover is the worst in the series. And if you wanna debate what is the "WORST PILE OF ****ING *** ever released in the racing genre", I'd rather vote for DiRT 2 than NFS Carbon. :p

Carbon was a great big pile of steaming crap, ran like crap on high end systems (at the time) and gameplay was just shocking

Really getting anxious to try this sucker. Now I've heard both positive and negatives about the handling / physics of the game and really want to try 'em out myself. Really annoys me when every game these days have to include a "dab of arcade handling" just to please the masses, previews made it sound like a hardcore simulation with tons of work being put into actual physics and handling and now it just sounds like they've gone on a compromise.

Gief game pl0x!

I'm picking this and NHL 10 up on Tuesday. It's probably a waste to even get this though, as I'll be right into NHL for a good while (I'm Canadian, I can't help it!!) :p.

It certainly leans towards sim. The physics on the cars can't be faulted, one of the tracks set in a sort of Utah environment has more crests and dips than a roller-coaster. As you can imagine you have to break hard as you hit the crest or the weight will happily shift off the wheels so when you try to make the 45 degree turn which comes moments after it you fly right in to the barrier. Same goes for the downhills. If you're speeding at 90MPH and slam on the breaks and even turn slightly you, half the time anyway, end up facing the wrong way.

The problem I had with the physics days ago was due to handling, while it's not an issue on the lower car classes, it rears it's head round tier 2/tier 3. It's hard not to steer without giving it the full stick on a pad which turns your small corrections to avoid going in to someones arse in to a full blown drift. It's easy to correct by slapping on traction control to full when you reach that level.

Talking of drifting. Has anyone managed to learn how to do those modes yet? I just end up facing the wrong way looking like a pillock. :(
