how this compare to Grid? (In-car racing feeling)

It feels like the car exists on the track and has a weight in the world. Compared to Grid which felt like, to me, the car was stuck on the spot and just drifted about.

I have to say I am really, really into playing this once I get my hands on it. I was highly skeptical for a long time (never of the visuals, etc., it just looks amazing), but from what I have been watching of the video reviews, it sounds as if they really nailed the controls, so just damn excited to play it.

I also believe I will be whipping out my Wireless Microsoft Racing Wheel, as it is about time it gets some use, although I never did receieve my replacement power cord as the original ones (which I have) are actually prone to catching fire or something like that, so I need to call MS for the third time int he matter (both times I was supposedly being mailed the new power cord, but oh well).

Wheel or controller, I am really hoping it is as good as the reviews are saying it is.

I'm trying to decide whether I should get the racing wheel or not. This is probably the only game I will use it with. But if it is worth it I will. :-) Opinions? Anyone here that has played it both with a controller and wheel?

To all those that have a "legal media review disc" ( ), how this compare to Grid? (In-car racing feeling)

MUCH better. It's basically a cross between Gran Turismo and Forza 2 in a way. The graphics, sounds, controls, physics, environments are second to none. The only thing it lacks is perhaps a larger car selection and a open-world type of mode. One gripe I have is how stock cars make a transmission whine...in reality you don't hear any of that unless its like a stripped out racecar.

Other than that its one of the best racing games I've ever played.

I have not used it yet with this game, but I can tell you as someone who owns one I do not think it was worth the money I played, especially for the reason you mention above, only using it with one or two games, and I am hoping I actually use it here.

I picked the game up bright and early this morning for the 360. I'm fairly far through the lvl 2 events and have done some of the invitationals. There's a lot to like about this game but also a lot to hate. The cars feel substantial and real, except the fact the handling is very twitchy. The tires also feel weird. Like they have a bunch of grip and then part way through the turn will let go despite not changing your speed or turning angle. I'm not saying it's unpredictable, just weird. Also I have no idea why but the battle events are a lot harder than the racing. Also on some tracks as soon as a wheel touches outside the track you get sucked into the wall. I also loathe the whole blacking out thing. You hit anything (even sometimes a fairly gentle nudge against another car) and you black out. This has caused me to slam into the wall twice so far after nudging somebody, causing more of a blackout and potentially causing you to lose the race.

The worst thing though is the load times. oh my freaking hell are they long if you're playing from disc. I don't understand why it needs to load so much when you're not even changing tracks either like during the battles

yeah, I know what you mean by the tires losing grip if you twitch the steering a little bit too much during the turns. The battle events are way harder then the races no doubt...the drifting in the game sucks lol

I'm really excited about this game, it looks great and by the sounds of it, it handles great. I really hope the crashes/damage is excellent too! As I love being able to watch the replays of decent crashes ect...

One other thing, I hope the AI are prone to accidents/mistakes on the track too!

It looks like it's a must get for me:

Welcome to the arcade feeling of the Need for Speed franchise. It's not a complete sim. It's a sim with arcade type controls.

If you've got a Playstation 3, Best Buy are doing a deal this week only. Buy this or Dirt 2 and get a logitech wireless wheel for only $20. A $60 discount (whilst supplies last)

Great game so far. The only things that bug me are the long loading times, and even if you tap the wall, your vision gets blurry and gray. NFS has always been pretty challenging, but it's really frustrating when you blow the race by just scratching against the wall and then missing the next corner since everything is blurry. A little over the top in my opinion.

Damn, I have to say I am not all that happy after reading the past 3 pages or so of comments. I dont want to have to fiddle with settings to get it to a point I feel comfortable with. I have already said I do not like sim racing games and was hoping this would lean more towards arcadey, but it looks like from the dicsussions it may not be that way :( . Well, will find out for myself in about an hour as soon as I am done working for the day, already installed it to my 360 since I read about long load times.

Initial impressions: Lovin' it!

Although the menu system on the PC is awful, it doesn't even change they "key tips" if you have a 360 controller. Like, the standard keys for browsing rims is the 8 and 9 key

Yeah I definitely agree about the menus.

Loving the game so far though, amazing sense of speed and immersion. I don't think the handling is really aracdy at all. The cockpit view is just gorgeous, I am glad game devs are finally realizing cockpit view > all. The AI is really good as well.

Runs buttery smooth maxed out on my pc too.

Only con is it has an archaic damage system compared to grid or dirt/dirt2. Really generic damage. But when you run into walls and ram cars and stuff you do really "feel it" though at least.

shift is one of 3 NFS games coming out, the others being World Online, which you could tell by its name that its an online game but its also a sequel for Undercover so it would probably be arcadey as well, and Nitro which is for the Wii and Nintendo DS, which would definitely be very acradey...

In other news hell has frozen over this week.

Actually the rumor I have heard is everytime Sethos loves a game a Unicorn is born...

This is why they are such rare, magical creatures.

Hmm, with all these unusually positive impressions about NFS Shift, maybe I'll give it a shot soon.

Would be a relief after two terribad NFS releases last year and the year before.

So my very initial impression is I like it. I was really scared reading some of the comments, but this is not as Simulation as I thought it would be. I have done 4 races now and gotten 1st place in all of them easily.

There I was doing the first invitational event, and I forget what car it was but it was definitely way, way faster then the GTi I purchased, and I was in 1st place going insanely fast, lost control and hit a wall, and was able to mantain driving and did not crash. Any other simulation game and no way I survive that.

So I have always wanted to like Simulation racing games, I have just never had the patience and perhaps just the skill to get good at them, but so far this seems like the game I will keep on playing as I am nowhere close to even feeling frustrated yet, and with other similar games in the genre I am usually about ready to give up.

And no simpler way to put it, but no other racing game has ever captured speed like this one. I have always loved the Need For Speed series as they truly gave a great impression of going insane fast, and this just carries on the tradition ten-fold. It truly is sick.

And be forewarned, I can be back in here in two hours saying I hate it as I am at that frustrated point. Just saying.

Try the drift races. They were a romance forged in hell. I refuse to ****ing do em', I'm sick of them. It took me 30 attempts to get 1st place on first event.
