ViperAFK
That damage full option definitely does have an effect, I slammed into a wall and got hit by a car after, and it ****ed up my steering so bad I couldn't finish the race lol. Sethos
Honestly, after playing a few races, messing around with the handling setup, bought some cars, riced them up a bit the game becomes stale really fast. Most racing games have this natural flow that keeps you interested, you constantly want to do one more race to get that trophy or get some money to buy that car. The feeling is kind of lost in this game, mainly because the cars aren't really exciting to drive thus making later tiers pointless and the entire progression thing is lost. The first few hours I was ecstatic because it's something new, you got so much to learn, so much to try but at the core the game offers nothing above or even at the same level as other 'career' racers. The one thing that could, perhaps, have saved it a bit for me replayability wise, is a more elaborate customization options. They feel so bog standard and limited, all this level unlock crap is annoying, especially when the game doesn't even interest you enough to get to those levels - You just get this "Oh well, I'll never get / try those" feeling and that's about it. Yes, I did say it would be a decent game to hold me over until GT5 / Forza 3 but honestly, I'm already bored with it, so that is out the window. Why couldn't they just add some 'small town' inspired circuits, add some police cars and boom, they would have had an epic game! They have this amazing recipe for a game yet they want to do circuit racing ... That is shooting yourself in the foot considering what's being released AND it's not that exciting. So after a few hours, the initial excitement dies off and you are left with a pretty standard racing game that offers nothing to keep you playing, yet it insists you keep playing to try out some of the supposedly more 'fun' stuff - Venus fly trap of time waste it is.. The engine is nice though, love the blur effect at high speeds and the "shaky" cockpit. I'd say mostly racing buffs will keep playing this game ... rajputwarrior
i kinda agree with sethos, but i love racing games A LOT and their are a lot of cars in this game and i want to try them all. The in car view is still the best in the market and it's fun to rip around. The game is hard, especially with manual transmission and that challenge is what keeps bring me back to the game. But i agree with Seth as the novelty can wear off because the game just throws thousands of dollars at you for next to nothing. And earning stars to unlock the next tiers does get kinda of annoying. I guess they figured they would balance it without the crap load of money they give you. But the game does have a crapload of tuning options are great if you know what they mean/do. Yes they whole, rice out your car theme may not be there, but that's because it's not a street racer. When it comes to police chases and what not, this game is not going for that and if you are wanting it/looking for it, you shouldn't have played this game in the first place. This has been the best Need for Speed game in years and it's good to see that they are finally going in the right direction. The next one, which will be done by criterion will probably bring the game closer to it's roots. Their is still that Play 4 Free one coming out so who know how that one will be (apparently it's the sequel to undercover... which sucked) I don't know, im really loving it so far. I remember when i got this game for my 3DO. The series has definitely had it's ups and down, and this for sure is an up.

Nobody expected this game to be about police chases, I'm saying they should have gone for a Hot Pursuit game instead, with the same engine, cars, handling etc. as they have now and they would have had a BETTER game. Problem with previous Need for Speeds is the terrible handling of cars, lame graphical engines, boring gameplay etc. then police chases won't help, this game just needs something extra to be decent and that could have been police chases. DirtyLarry Veteran Posted September 18, 2009 Veteran Share Posted September 18, 2009 Yeah and actually in the past games it was the police cars that made me drive so well. That may sound crazy but I drove better cause I know if I crashed, I was caught. These stupid Hot Laps and the just racing another car, I lose my interest really fast. Only thing I am liking in this game is the races, and sooner or later I know I will get bored of them, just as Sethos is pointing out. Oh well, hopefully they do use the engine for some more inspired games. Way I see it is other titles take care of the sim racing, Need For Speed needs to stick to what the series has always been about IMHO.
Badie05
Gotta say I'm amazed with how the Driver Cockpit view worked out. It's practically the best way to play this title which is best IMO for all racers (more like a simulation). The only thing I'm disappointed about is the lack of vehicles, how you level, the tier system and the amount of detail you can tweak your vehicle (not much if you ask me). Otherwise its a fun arcade simulation racer and I gotta admit, one of the best offerings from NFS since Porche Unleashed or the Underground(s). solardog
I gotta take back something I said earlier in this thread about the cockpits...I wasn't impressed. Well, I hadn't been spending any money on upgrading the cockpits because I just thought it was a waste but I just did upgrade the cockpit in my Lotus and at level 3, I cant believe I'm about to say this about a NFS game, I think these are the best cockpits Ive ever seen and possibly the most usable. I never drive outside (chase) in any racing game (except Burnout). I prefer the cockpit if its offered, but most of the time I end up in hood view anyway because a lot of the cockpits just have too many blind spots, this one is probably the most comfortable Ive used. Another thing is in the cockpit this game performs differently, better. I think this game is specifically made to use the cockpit view.. the way the game looks and how the cars feel, it's just much better. Am I losing my mind? Anyone else notice this? ViperAFK
I think all racing games should have a cockpit view as good as this, I can't stand racing games without one. it makes it so much more immersible. A need for speed most wanted style game with police chases and this game engine/cockcpit view would be amazing.

MightyJordan
So MJ does the game run ok for you?? - from Uni Runs great for me. I've had no problems at all, and it's great to play. There's a couple of stupid bonus objectives (like spin out 4 drivers in a race), but apart from that, this will tide me over until Forza 3/Gran Turismo 5. I know on the 360 at the end of the race there is an option for one of the buttons, I think Y, and that lets you do replays or something. I know it is definitely there, just not sure that is the right button. Also I think if you Pause it, there is an option as well?

darkstormcr
Started playing it yesterday. I like it, but the handling is an acquired taste. I use the G35 wheel, I drove the Civic Si and the physics were CRAP until I turned off all the assists. The braking assist is the most retarded thing I've ever seen. Once you turn all that junk off, it feels perfect - even on my 360 controller. Pros for me...AWESOME interior modeling, great sound, great graphics. Cons...extremely buggy (could just be my system). Hopefully they release a patch soon to even things out.
halcyoncmdr
On the 360 at least after you go through all of the award screens and it is showing you your driver image thing and any medals you earned, etc. it is the START button that goes into the replay mode (The options are listed along the bottom edge of that window). I'm assuming it would be on the same screen at least on other platforms. After you exit entirely out of the race though I don't think there are any replay options.
