[Official] Need for Speed - SHIFT

Recommended Posts

Started playing it yesterday. I like it, but the handling is an acquired taste. I use the G35 wheel, I drove the Civic Si and the physics were CRAP until I turned off all the assists. The braking assist is the most retarded thing I've ever seen. Once you turn all that junk off, it feels perfect - even on my 360 controller.

Pros for me...AWESOME interior modeling, great sound, great graphics.

Cons...extremely buggy (could just be my system). Hopefully they release a patch soon to even things out.

It seems very unpolished in some areas. Its got this weird timewarp/slowdown thing going on and its not a frame rate drop...I dont know what its is..its almost like Im playing multiplayer and getting a low ping lag/warp effect.

I also found that turning off all assists and going inside the car after upgrading the cockpit turns this game from the huge piece off crap I thought it was at first to a fairly decent racer that needs a patch and some polish. I dont agree on the sound, I have a 7.1 system and these cars sound like a blast from the past...very computer synthesized sounding and in some instances, about the worst Ive heard in any racer after 1999 or so.

The game has grown on me a bit tho.

Has anyone seen the deal at gamestop. You get NFS: Shift for $19.99 if you trade in any two games from the list they provide. Check out the list, can anyone tell me something wrong with 360's list of game starting with N.

Nothing wrong, the list isn't used only for trading Shift.

The wrong thing is we don't see it in the PS3 :p

So how different to GRID is it then?

Mainly in the way the cars handle, Shift is more sim in that regard, but its much more more arcade in the many ways you gain points throughout, actually pretty good in that regard...its basically schitzo.

One comment about the game... It's the slowest loading game I ever got installed on my SSD. I've seen allot of Gfx glitch during the game, major slowdown like stuttering.

GRID had much better/realistic engine sound.

I hope a patch will fix some of the problems.

I only just played the demo on my new GTX 260 card and it looks stunning but gameplay wise, it feels more like a rip off of Forza with a mixture of GRID thrown in.

I see NFS as a police and street racing game but this....noooo..I'm losing interest in NFS overall. NFS 5 and less is what NFS is all about.

Gave it a quick run on my system. Never since NFS Most Wanted have my first impressions of a NFS game been very positive. This is, in my opinion, a more "accessible" GRID for casual players (I'm playing it on the easiest settings, since I lack a steering wheel or controller :p). Runs okay too, on highest settings, 1280x1024, and 4xAA it's usually smooth with a few FPS hitches in intense corners.

And it looks pretty darn gorgeous. :D

well ive finally got shift working under Windows 7, (had to downgrade my gfx and physix drivers) works perfectly under windows 7 now and im really enjoying the game play, the menu system is a little to 'loud' and typical nsf-ish for my liking but, so far im enjoying it

I'm glad you're getting into it now, Uni. :)

I'm still loving it. The only blips so far are whenever the bonus objective in a race is "Spin Out 4 Opponents", and when I did the first drift event. But the first one is difficult as hell, when you've never played it before on this game, and they start you off on a very tight track. Once you've done that, it's easy throughout. I've had no problems at all after the first event.

The game is working great with Win7 x64 with the latest nVidia drivers.

These loading times are ridiculous, even if you redo a race you've just done the loading is just as slow.

Finally, I'm quite disappointed, the menus and career progress is unappealing to me, the game also lack the diversify of Grid witch have more game types (included Formulas), the game also lack a partner driver witch I found cool in GRID. Also, despite having a better graphic engine, I never felt yet that I was looking to a real life video witch I felt in the 1 1/2 year old GRID.

Sure I'm not far in the game progress (only at the first race of Tier2), pardon me if I missed something.

Nevertheless, the game as big pluses, like the ability to upgrade and tweak your car, something missing in GRID, better in-car camera, better looking car models, a nice driver profile thing witch bring some action to a racing game.

This is, in my opinion, a more "accessible" GRID for casual players
Heh? I'm a casual racing gamer (I play always at the easiest level in racing games), and so far I'm really having big difficulty to handle cars in Shift where I can pretty well handle them in GRID. I'm not sure if I will be able to finish the game one day...

Shift is by far my favorite "sim-type" (call it that as I would not say it is full sim) racing game out there, but I pretty much have never liked the other more realistic ones as I have always sucked at them.

Right now I have Tier 4 unlocked but have not even touched Tier 3. I am Level 15 and have over a million in the bank, and finally I have 44 wins and 3 losses (all of which came early on).

I am pretty sure I should not have an issue with Tier 3 and Tier 4, as every invitational event I have done with them I actually do better. I think they did a great job of making it more on the sim side of things but making it so you do not have to be good at sims to actually play it. Will see with progression if I change my mind, but right now I am really liking it and doing well as well, something I have never done in other racing games.

that's exactly why this game is great and soo much fun. Except this is by far the HARDEST drifting game ever. Tried it once with the 370z and it was just embrassing. Maybe i should play this game with an auto transmission, well at least for drifting. I thought GRID had it down perfect.

And solardog is right, the loadings times are pretty ridiculous.

Oh. I should have mentioned I am not going near the Drifting events AT ALL. I tried one (one of my losses) and I HATED it. Went and did some practice drifting, and still hated it. I am going to try and beat the game without touching it, which I think is probably possible. I have 223 Stars and it says 280 needed for Tier 5, and like I said I literally just started Tier 3, only got 12 stars on it so far, so I think Tier 5 without Drifting is definitely doable.

I opened up tier 5 before I touched a tier 3 race and only did 4 drifts. I hate drifting in general, but this game has the worst drifting I've experienced. The first drift race they give you doesn't help matters, that tiny figure 8 track is just horrible. Seems you can go through this game without ever touching a drift, that's a huge plus in my book.

Does this version still have a free ride mode? I'm not of fan of racing but prefer to just ride around with cops chasing behind.

No. If there is then I don't know where it is.

You race in tracks and events.
