+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted March 10, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted March 10, 2009 Mythic has asked Warhammer Online players on selected servers to transfer their characters to one of 15 destination realms, in preparation for the closure of 43 game servers.A notice went up yesterday on the Warhammer site, informing players of the upcoming transfers. A table containing 43 Source and 15 destination servers shows players where they may transfer their characters to, although if they would prefer another server Mythic is allowing a one-off transfer to any server of the player's choice of the same type. A part of the announcement revealed that all 43 source servers will be shut down at some point: "Characters on the source servers listed below will all be consolidated onto the corresponding destination server. All source servers will eventually be closed." Players are asked to ensure they read the guide, which is included in the notice, on transferring their characters to ensure no items are lost in the move. There are also a number of instances where the transfer will not be possible, such as a character's name being disallowed on the destination server, or if a player has characters on the destination server of the opposite faction. Vortex566
What a shame, played Warhammer when it first launched the game is by no means bad. Its just not WoW, which you seem to need to be to stay a float in the MMO world.
(Spork)
Still waiting for that trial offer... Maybe they should have tried that first? lrn2google and the servers closing .. this is what happens when you have so many server at the start and then you start "balancing" classes instead of fixing the core problems . :/

Joseph B
AoC then Warhammer, both closing/closed a large amount of servers. What a shame. =(
trag3dy
I don't know that it's entirely bad thing, but it certainly doesn't bode well all things considered. They just had to many servers to fast. I mean, how many servers does WoW have, with how many subscribers? Warhammer had nearly as many as they did with even during the huge beta 1/10th the player base. They spread the players to thin so people got tired of not being able to get into scenarios or any sort of rvr competition and lopsided faction balance. Still, the game is great I think. I'm enjoying it way more than I ever enjoyed playing WoW. I haven't reached end game yet where apparently the game grows stale if you listen to some, but so far, the rvr is awesome, the quests are not tedious at all, unlike WoW, and the just about every single player I've encounter so far in game is nice. The only issue I have with it is the loot distribution system and contribution system that seems very flaky. I don't know why it's not more successful. LOC Veteran Posted March 13, 2009 Veteran Share Posted March 13, 2009 The problem with WAR from the start was they had WAY to many servers. I don't blame them though. They had a pre-order program that did over 1 million, and they were being cautious with the server numbers. But when they saw that less than 1 million people were going to be playing it over the long haul, they should have merged and closed servers much sooner. Plus the whole cloning servers thing towards the beginning made alot of players angry. But now we are months into the life of the game, and closing servers normally signals the death of a game (which this game isn't close to thanks!). Now they have the right amount of servers, and they continue to add content and polish the game up. It's really amazing how much they've added to the game already. I'd go so far as to say they are adding content on the order of SOE and EQ2 here. Well maybe not, but close. Either way, Mythic made a good game. I don't know why people slag it off all the time. If you don't like a PvP centered game (there is still decent PvE you know) that's fine. But the rest of us who enjoy the game, will enjoy the game regardless. Now where is my Slayer! spacer
The game really is fantastic. And I'd have continued to play it if it weren't for the fact that everyone and their mother went Destruction, which made RvR on Alliance impossible to win...which completely defeated the purpose and the "fun" of playing the game. mounty
Yeah my bro quit his dwarf character for the same reason, the 'alliance' side just lost again and again and again in pvp.. They learnt nothing from WoW!

Eric Veteran Posted March 13, 2009 Veteran Share Posted March 13, 2009 FAIL What are you talking about? EA most certainly should have had a trial for their new online game the day it opened. I'm glad they're offering one now, though. I'll skip the rest of the 10 days. It looks like NCSoft's Dungeon Runners and doesn't even control as well. Pretty much. The game is ass, and bordering on a total lore rape. Ass wasn't the term I thought of when I tried it, but it's more polite. :)

Closer to launch, I grew apprehensive, but I was still one of those nerds all giddy on launch day, gleefully rolling my WH... What a colossal let-down. I was bored in less than a week, canceled my account while still in the free month. Warworld of HammeronlineScenariogrindCraft is sorta like watching my lawn grow, yet while watching my lawn, I can hope for a bird to fly by and take a crap on me to break the monotony. WAR didn't even have that. Which is a shame. I've resubbed a few times, but never lasted more than a few weeks. Wouldn't be as bad, possibly tolerable, if the community that plays it weren't mostly basement-dweller douchebags. Not all of them, but I've bumped into quite a lot. I think this is the only game I can remember that I want to watch utterly and completely fail. Such a universe, so much lore, and Mythic grunt out this turd. Deplorable. Eric Veteran Posted March 13, 2009 Veteran Share Posted March 13, 2009 I didn't get as far as community. The first irritation was that the patcher was ungodly slow to download the client. Then the intro movie didn't play smoothly. After I logged in I discovered how limited the character creation is. "Greenskin?" I can't choose orc or goblin? No skaven? (My favorites...) The first questgiver told me "down the hill" and to look on my minimap if I couldn't figure it out. After not seeing anything on my map and wandering around for 5 minutes, I finally found the dwarves and was immediately attacked by one that was stuck in a boulder. I ran back up the hill with him still hitting me from inside the boulder, then logged out and uninstalled. It seemed like an alpha, and I'm not even touching on the audio and graphics. ;)
Dischordiant
Apparently you played Destro, and as a greenskin. The really sad part, is they seem to have put all of what little effort they could muster into the Greenskin and Dwarf areas on each respective sides. So you experienced a "good" starter area. Human is decent, but Chaos and both Elven areas are complete ass. It just gets clunkier and sloppier as time goes on. Which is a shame. After I grew tired/bored/saddened by my Witch Hunter, I rolled a Black Orc and a Ironbreaker...I really liked both those classes. But the overall feel of the game wasn't fun. It felt like doing chores when I was a kid. I just couldn't bring myself to even care about anything, just run around, collect quests, don't even read them, just look for the red blobs on the map and follow the tracker. Yawn. 'WAR is Everywhere!'...sure, if you are of the mindset that war consists of unmanned cannons firing irrelevant shots at motionless NPCs that don't even react to cannon fire...buildings that burn endlessly, yet have people standing around them like it's normal. Neat... Another thing, WAR has THE WORST looking elves I have ever seen. Bar none. I thought the greenskins were the genderless race? "Oh, I know, lets make an elven chick, then make the male just a bigger elven chick, with no breasts, but have them run like something is going on in their posterior region, and they don't enjoy it much." I could really go on about all the things I absolutely hate about this game, but I think I've devoted far more time and thought into it than it's worth. trag3dy
I guess my experience with the game differs from yours because I've had great fun playing it. With the condensed server list there is now more players on each server and more rvr going on. If you didn't try that then I don't know what to tell you. Oh yeah, Greenskin quests are great, quite hilarious. One of the first ones you get is a quest to catch some dwarves and put them in an empty barrel and kick them off the edge of a bridge/dam thing. Though recently I've begun to have serious issues with the contribution system in party quests, which really make me unhappy to say the least. Others are writing it off as bad luck, meh, whatever.
