trag3dy
I just got this today, I haven't played World In Conflict before but I'm looking forward to it.. I haven't played a strategy game in ages. I played the first mission and it was quite fun so far.
Yusuf M. Veteran Posted March 13, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted March 13, 2009 I tried it at a friend's house and it's really fun. I played the original when it came out but I was turned away by performance issues. Unfortunately, I didn't have the sense to disable the DX10 render path. Disabling it greatly improves performance. If you have an HD 4870/GTX 260, you can basically run the game at an average of ~40 FPS on "high" settings with 4xAA and 16xAF enabled. My original plan was to save up for Dawn of War II but I think this game will do it for me.
trag3dy
How would you go about doing that? Disabling the DX10 that is? I have a gtx 260, should I still do that?

You can disable it in the advanced video options. It's the second last option (USE DX10 RENDERING). Simply uncheck it to drastically improve your FPS. :)

LOC Veteran Posted March 13, 2009 Veteran Share Posted March 13, 2009 "Soviet Assault contains:6 new single player missions 2 new multiplayer maps called Berlin and Norway" ... Is that it?! Yes, sadly. Remember though, up until late last year this expansion wasn't even going to come out. Either way, if you own WiC already, this expansion may not be something you want or need. After all the big patch that came out a couple of days ago includes the 2 new MP maps. So all you really get are the single player missions. And the problem with those are this: If you played through WiC already, you HAVE to play through the game again to get to the new missions. They are inserted into the main game and you play them off and on with the old content. One mission from the original game, then a new mission, then two missions from the old game, then a new mission. Etc. Regardless, WiC is an amazing game. I applaud the developers at Massive for making a strategy game I actually PLAYED, and enjoyed. Love WiC multiplayer also. So much fun. But whether or not it's worth getting the expansion is purely up to you personally.
Yusuf M. Veteran Posted March 13, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted March 13, 2009 Amazon is selling World in Conflict: Complete Edition for $29.99! World in Conflict on STEAM costs $29.99. You're basically getting the expansion pack for free if you buy it from Amazon. I've edited the OP to include Amazon links for the US, Canada, and UK. Yusuf M. Veteran Posted March 14, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted March 14, 2009 I just can't get enough of this game. I am definitely buying it for myself. I've been at my friend's house for hours hogging her computer. Man, it'd be so nice if Massive Entertainment could develop a game based on current (modern) military technology. Yusuf M. Veteran Posted March 15, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted March 15, 2009 I updated the OP to include a STEAM buy link. I'm not sure whether I should purchase it on STEAM or simply buy it boxed (physical disc). Anyway, I'm still playing through the campaign and noticed that my units changed. At first I didn't have access to attack helicopters. Now I can bring in medium or heavy attack helicopters. I've yet to play a game online. To be honest, I'm still trying to get used to the style of play. It isn't like a traditional RTS game where you build structures and produce units. Instead, you start off with a set amount of points that you could use to "bring in reinforcements". It's an interesting way of playing because you can focus more on your attacks then building structure after structure.
StealMySoda
I ALMOST ordered this last night. Then stopped at the last second. I'd rather wait and spend my money on Tales of Valor :)
Yusuf M. Veteran Posted March 17, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted March 17, 2009 I ALMOST ordered this last night. Then stopped at the last second. I'd rather wait and spend my money on Tales of Valor :) Your choice, I suppose. I'd much rather play World in Conlfict than Company of Heroes. I've only played the Company of Heroes demos (original and Opposing Fronts). It was enough for me to make my decision to wait for the expansion pack for World in Conflict. As much as I liked the style of play in Company of Heroes, the fact that the game is set in a WWII era didn't sit well with me. I'm a junkie when it comes to modern warfare and, so far, World in Conflict is my modern warfare RTS "fix".

mollick2
Havn't played WiC in ages. I remember playing the oringal in beta. Good times we had back then, when we could run transport and have a team mate put his troups in there and run them back and forth by your spawn for free TA points. Good times, I have to say I didn't enjoy the full game nearly as much as I did the betas.
Yusuf M. Veteran Posted May 7, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted May 7, 2009 I love the original WIC,but soviet assault is crashing alot :( There was an issue with the very first Soviet Assault mission; however, that issue was quickly resolved with a patch. Perhaps your client isn't updated. Go here and download the latest patch (v1.010).

Yusuf M. Veteran Posted May 13, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted May 13, 2009 Well I'm pretty sure I'd be hogging her not her computer if I were you :) J/K That makes the two of us. ;) Anyway, I plan on taking some super high quality screenshots. The graphics look amazing when the settings are maxed out. Unfortunately, I have to disable a few of those settings to make the game playable.
