New Gears of War 2 Map Pack & Experience System

Never said it was a perfect game. Don't get your panties in a bunch because I called you out about not knowing whether or not it was an issue. You haven't played in so long you wouldn't even know if it was. Your logic is amusing, too. Does World at War being higher than Modern Warfare mean it's a better game? Does Gears 2 being far ahead of Gears 1 mean it's multiplayer is far better, too? It doesn't, as I'm sure you can attest, as you like Gears 1 more.

Again, never claimed it was a perfect game. Don't get mad because I called you out.

Dude you need to play more GoW 1 before you get the real idea. The chainsaw lowering does not work properly in GoW 2, sometimes yes it does work but it is very buggy and often they will chainsaw right through your shots as if nothing is happening to them. I know what I am talking about, I have spent a **** load of time in GoW 1 and a decent amount in GoW 2. I have played GoW 2 with the latest updates (not including TU3 which comes out today) and the chainsaw lowering just isn't reliable. The fact is it was far more reliable than GoW 1 (when even that wasn't perfect) and therefore anyone who is used to the way it was in GoW 1 is going to be frustrated as hell in GoW 2. This is only one problem in a LONG list of problems that were not in GoW 1.

They changed the multiplayer far to much and it just isn't competitive anymore.

To each his own. You say it's not competitive, I say it still is. I'm aware that there are problems, but you make it sound like it's some massively bug-ridden game. I haven't encountered a game-breaking bug yet. People want to point at the list of releases in these topics, but that's how most patches are... for any game. And most of them aren't big deals. The biggest deal I've seen so far is the chainsaw through walls, and that only happened in certain spots, and the enemy had to know exactly where you were for it to work, so it really wasn't a big deal.

As for the chainsaw -- again, I still haven't had the problem but once or twice, and that was before the last two updates. I'll look more closely for it when I play again.

@ Andy: I knew it was only a matter of time before you chimed in :p Yup, community spoken. Behind Halo and the CoD games.

As I said: "I'm aware that there are problems, but you make it sound like it's some massively bug-ridden game."

Yes, there are problems. But "broken"? I wouldn't go that far, personally. Lay off the personal attacks.

Well to me what killed the competitive nature of the game was the weapon balance. In gears 1 regardless of what power weapon the other team had, you had a damn good chance to take them out just with your shotgun if you were good enough. The most overpowered weapon was the boomshot and it only had 2 shots and was easier to dodge. Now the boomshot is in almost every map, had 3 shots, and does more splash damage which means a near miss that would have saved you in gears 1 will kill you in gears 2. Add on that the # of maps that have mortar and hammer of dawn. Add on to that tagging grenades to walls which just makes it easier for anyone who can press B to get a kill, not to mention even the smoke grenades are overpowered. They even made the torque bow more powerful with increased splash damage and headshots, and it was already very powerful in gears 1. The only weapon they didn't make stronger was the sniper and it was one of the most difficult weapons to use but also the most rewarding if you were good enough. I guess people like the game for different reasons, but I liked Gears of War multiplayer for it's simplicity.

I wouldn't say the bugs are game breaking either I just feel like it is worse than gears 1 which makes it not appealing. Now I just play gears 1 on PC cause it has better graphics than gears 2 and the same gameplay I love.

Halo 3 made the same mistakes IMO with all the weapons they added to the game, the only gametypes I like in Halo 3 are the ones the take out all the bull**** weapons like the mauler. I think these developers try too hard to add new features and weapons to the following versions of the game when they really do more harm than good to the gameplay, but that's just me.

ive been playing this game alot ever since its come out, and ive noticed its alot easier to get a chainsaw interupted. So i dont know what you all complaining about.

As for the new experience system its alot better than the previous as you get to see the development of your rank as well as as sense of rewarding satisfaction.

The new map pack seems like a worth investment for me as i play this game frequently. If you don't play the game alot, then i wouldnt recomment it.

Did you guys play the first one? Cause thats how a chainsaw should work. Any bullet hits you and it will lower.

I think the problem still lies with that shotgun. Its horrible. In comparison to the first gears I should say.

The shotgun is horendous, it is a complete waste of space especially against the host, I would much rather have the option to start with a lancer and a hammerburst.

I don't think a debate is necessary. I'm just saying from my experience (and i play at least 3 hours a day, because i've got allot of spare time) and every time i've shot someone with a chainsaw or i've been show with my chainsaw, it got lowered. Just yesterday, i decided to be cocky, revved my chainsaw and went for a guy head on. I got interrupted 3 times in a row. I was ****ed off and i was the fool trying to chainsaw.

It seems with your conditional hate for this game you are talking from a past or at least not so recent experience. i personally dont think the chainsaw is a reasonable reason to dislike the game anymore. Anything else like not liking the mortars and other over powered weapons, then you can simply play Gears of War 1. There's no reason to hate, just ignore it and move on.

Speaking of moving on. Can we go back to talking about the subject at hand? I'm debating whether this map pack is worth it now because after a few hours of playing the combustible maps pack, i'm really not enjoying the flood map. And that's a 1/3 of my fun for money gone. So who ever is getting it asap, then can someone review the Snow maps and how they fare out,?

Yes, I played the first. Quite a bit, in fact.

It depends on where you live in connection with the host alot to be fair. I usually play with a few friends from my area of the UK, and Im fine if Im on their host, but as soon as I get stuck on a spanish host or something most wepons are useless.

If your familiar with the Gears 1 concept, youd know when searching for a game youd see the connection strength on the side. So youd know if it was guna be decent for you. With this, you dont get the choice, hence making horrid wepons.

On the topic of the map pack. Id rather wait a month or two until it becomes free. They did it with GOW1, so theyll do it with GOW2 I think. Especially with the rate theyre hammering them out, not to mention COD:MW2 will take alot of the players over to that.

Why so?

Anyone who loves Call of Duty 4 is already playing it. If they only love the franchise, they're playing it or World at War. If they're playing Gears of War 2, it's probably because they like the gameplay. Here's what will happen: Call of Duty 4 and World at War will both take significant hits in players and drop. 4 because people who like Infinity Ward's games will have the new one, World at War because CoD fans will have the new one. But why would Gears take a major hit?

I mean, it possibly could, but I don't see why.

Im just making an assessment from the people on my friends list. Theres a good few of them that I dont really play with often, but they just seem to drift from whatever is the flavour of the month.

The example being, most of them Id have met in gears games, but atm theyre mainly playing COD:waw. SO theyve already made the switch in gameplay.
