FarCry 2 deal on Steam - Only for today

Recommended Posts

If this was actually a good game I'd consider it. Lately, I haven't been impressed by many of the newer games coming out. I thought Assassin's Creed was better than FarCry 2. Something about that game just never felt right, and it was probably even more repetitive than AC.

Well I am more looking forward to the multiplayer part of it.... I dont know, I was reluctant on getting it too, but for this price I think it's hard to say no :)

If only it was good.

Yeah but what other game can you get at this price that's even closely as entertaining and good looking as FarCry 2, plus you can pick up the new pack for 5.99 so for $20.00 you have a brand new game...

?24.99, ?17.49 and $14.99. I know what country I'm going to pretend to be in. Valve are total scumbags to foreigners.

Yeah, cause Valve is totally the publisher right? Think before you speak.

They treat the Euro and Dollar as equivalent as policy, I'm not sure it's me that needs to do the thinking here.

Maybe you should actually think. 25 Euros equals $33 USD. That's over 2x the amount the US has to pay. Very terrible deal for them.

Hey, does Far Cry 2 look significantly better on the PC than it does on the PS3 or Xbox 360? Can anyone tell me?

My PC is a Quad Core, GeForce 9800, 1 GB Vid Ram, 4 GB RAM, etc. A very good PC.

Thanks for helping!

What's annoying is that the '50% off deal' means nothing for anyone in the UK. I can pick up FarCry 2 off Play.com for ?17.99 delivered so this deal saves me 50p instead of about 8 quid. I know the pound is crap right now but that can't be the whole story.

"Digital distribution will be cheaper."

Yeah right. So, a Steam copy of Far Cry 2 with the "promotion" costs ?24.99 (regular price, ?49.99), and a physical copy of the same game from Sendit costs ?27.49 (no promotions or anything).

Yup, digital distribution and Steam in particular, :rolleyes:leyes:

/end of sarcasm.

I dont know about Europe but Ive been using Steam in the States for quite a while and I've always loved their deals.

Plus I like the convenience of not having to store my CDs/DVDs on side and not having to deal with scratches.

All I need is a network connection and no matter where I go or what kind of PC I build I just login to steam and I install all off my games.

I think they have a great idea and they offer an awesome service.

Cheers

I'm pretty sure thats not the case and the issue is individual developers/publishers just haven't adjusted their prices and have chosen to keep the Euro and Dollar equal. Pretty sure they have the option, if they want, to set different values in different territories.

I don't think Valve is the one at fault...they just made the initial move of representing the games in a local currency instead of all places showing the US value. Some publishers just decided not to adjust the pricing.

They don't set the pricing policy for other publishers, but when publishing their own games, they price them 1?=$1. As the owners of the Steam CDN, this sets the example for other publishers to follow.

Bah despite the fact it's on sale I will not buy it as SecuROM interferes with Daemon Tools, and I don't like the idea of having rootkits on my system. Take out the DRM and make it full price and I'd buy it!

What's totally uncalled for here is that you tell this guy to "think before he speaks" when clearly you haven't done the same yourself. Reported.

Uhhh...hell yeah! This game looks amazing on a decent computer. It is by far the hardest fps I have played where the surrounding are so realistic and people blend into the environment. It is a hard multiplayer to play. I love this game man. I'm hooked on the multiplayer. It's fast paced and fun, just like the original far cry. Not sure why these people are saying it is junk, maybe they are trying to play it on ancient hardware...just like they tried to put Vista on ancient hardware.

Well I won't say the game is junk or great because I only got about 3 missions in. To be honest I tried playing the game 3 times and every time I ended up feeling sick after 20 or 30 mins of play. I don't know if it's a phase I was going through but given it's a widespread issue with the game I'd say it's not. This is after the patch too.

Of what little I did play, I didn't like the rather vague goals that had been set out. I also found the whole malaria thing annoying and cheap.

Shame because Far Cry 1 is one of my top few games of all time but I couldn't get into this one, especially due to the motion sickness.

is it me or does the very 1st post on the page you listed have the left 4 dead games at different values to the US ones?

they did state this which I disagree with

If you ask me, Valve should just ask publishers for one price in dollars, and automatically (correctly) convert this to other currencies.
because while that is nice and would seem fair, unfortunatly not all games are always released simultaneously so having a single global price when you are competing against multiple retail markets wouldn't work.

No I do agree pricing is an issue but it's not in any way Valves "fault" that other publishers set those prices nor is it even an issue thats exclusive to PC distribution given XBox live points are both region locked and sold for different prices around the world. Same with iTunes and other services. It sucks I know but you have to account for varying other factors like the local retail market, not to mention the obvious greed and apparent laziness of many publishers.

I don't remember the single player action on Far Cry1, did it even have it? If I were you, I would fire that game back up and get your butt in the multiplayer, which is what I remember very well in Far Cry1. It is well made, and the maps are dynamic enough since people are making their own. The only complaint I have is that punk buster often kicks people with vista 64. It is a known issue. But dude.....far cry 2 multi is where it is at! The frame rates are better than in the single as well. Go man, what are you doing still reading this...go fire it up! :)

What am I doing? trying to avoid getting motion sickness. lol. No seriously I just couldn't handle it and it was disappointing since I'd waited since FC1 for the title.

And I really loved FC1's single player despite some coining it a tech demo. I found the level design really fun and immersive...in fact more so than I did Crysis.

Honestly having played and loved the original, if people aren't prone to feeling like vomiting playing this title then I'd probably recommend it just to try (or get the original). Who knows they may love it. Really it seems to be a game like S.T.A.L.K.E.R that really divides the FPS community in many ways with a lot of people loving the game and a lot really hating it. It certainly has had some mixed responses anyway.

Dated the 26th of March (the day before yesterday), it is the first change they have made. It may be a sign of things to come, or it may not. The 30th biggest and 18,000 strong group on Steam supports my view.

I can't tell, so are you still talking about the single player or multiplayer??

In regards to what game

FC1...single player

FC2 I didn't bother with multiplayer. If the single player makes me sick within minutes then I have no reason to believe the multiplayer wouldn't too.
