Frogboy Administrators Posted March 29, 2009 Administrators Share Posted March 29, 2009 What's your preferred way of communicating in games via a headset? Ventrilo? Team Speak? Xfire? Steam? Something else?

Srugie Veteran Posted March 29, 2009 Veteran Share Posted March 29, 2009 The built-in VoIP in the two latest multiplayer Source games (Team Fortress 2 and Left 4 Dead). I use that or if it's personal then the voice chat included in Steam.
Bhav
Many years ago when I used to play Enemy Territory (the free one), I usually went for Xfire or Skype. These days...well I don't play pc games lol
SuperKid
Ventrilo on max quality (cd quality usually).
ViZioN
Currently just use the in-game chat for TF2 although my clan really should invest in a ventrilo server or something :p I used to use Ventrilo a lot and that worked fine. Teamspeak is pretty good too.
Vice
Voice Chat in Steam is great. I like the quality it offers, being able to push to talk and not needing to setup your own server.
SuperKid
Teamspeak quality is crap, and xbox live is the worst quality iv'e ever heard in my life, its terrible can't understand one word of what people say. Ventrilo is proberly the best client and its so cheap for servers.

Fuzzymath
I use Ventrilo mostly right now. Teamspeak used to be my true love, but the audio codecs are just to old. I'm looking forward to their codec upgrades in the next release though. I'll most likely switch our clan's server back once it goes live.
Sethos
Steam's own voice function, I refuse to install a ton of third party applications just to talk.
Yusuf M. Veteran Posted March 29, 2009 Veteran Share Posted March 29, 2009 Ventrilo because it's easy to use. It's also got different channels you could use for different things. For example, one channel could be a World of Warcraft raid whereas another one could be a Counter-Strike match. Oh, and the quality is top-notch. Much better than in-game voice for just about any game.

Sikh
Steam and Vent for other games. I would use TS but like its been said, codecs are old. Ill probably go back to TS with the new update. I like the layout of TS over ventrilo.
gigapixels Veteran Posted March 29, 2009 Veteran Share Posted March 29, 2009 Vent is what I use the most, since the only PC game I ever play anymore is WoW. What irks me is that they have perfect built-in voice functionality that nobody uses. I just don't understand it.
MightyJordan
For me, Skype is the best program. We used to use TeamSpeak, but that just fell through for some reason, so we turned to Skype. There's only ever 3 or 4 of us on with voice chat, so it's perfect. :)

+shift. MVC Posted March 29, 2009 MVC Share Posted March 29, 2009 Built in one for TF2 / Left 4 Dead. Built in for UT3 as well, but probably going to switch over to Vent soon seeing as how the UT3 chat is implemented VERY poorly.
Dwarden
TS2,Mumble,Skype and STEAM one... depends what i need and where ... IMHO it's opensource Mumble who can crush the rest (except the Skype due to it's p2p im state) ... unless TS3 mystical powers prove to be true :)
Minimoose
Mumble, prefer it to vent and teamspeak.
