MacBook Pro - Satifised with Glossy Screen?

Recommended Posts

Mine tends to flicker from time to time. It actually flickers at this site as well:

Does it give you eye strain? I still wish the screen was matte as opposed to glossy :\

What does glossy/matte have to do with the flicker? There seems to be a lot of defective screens in macbooks lately, that stupid random flicker :(

Anyway, I'm happy with the glossy screen so far. Matte would be fine too.

Like the glossy screen on mine. I do get the flicker with the above example but I've had mine for about six months ago and I've never seen a flicker on it with practical use.

i don't have a MBP but i've been inspecting the 15.4" one at the apple store every other day or so 'cause im seriously considering buying one. i agree with chaos_disorder about the brightness.

i'm not sure if i should start another thread about this but has anyone experienced any over heating problems with the 15"? I mean any laptop that thin + GPU = melting. most PC laptops have better vents and fans and i'm not sure if the vent on the MBP is sufficient enough...didn't neowin post an article about how the screen defects on the 17" MBP were caused to GPU over heating?

also is it worth getting the apple care for 400 bucks?

I do not necessarily have heating problems but there are, at times, increases in temperature particularly with the CPU. If I use the 9600GT high performance mode, then yes this is a difference in heating but I would not declare it an issue. You can use smcFanControl to adjust the fan settings and increase them.

I wasn't looking forward to Glossy but after seeing it in person and buying my own with Glossy I wouldn't go back to Matte.

1. It looks a lot better, colours are deeper, blacks are much better

2. Much easier to clean just wipe the glass over without worrying about scratching the screen or leaving an unwanted mark

And those are my reasons. :)

  • 1 month later...

My screen appears to flicker when moving that page, and I have an almost 2y/o MBP. I don't the flickering you're seeing is a result of any particular deficiency in Macbook screens, but rather the nature of the page exercises your LCD in ways that you normally don't.
