Sure it did **** me off when my Xbox RROD. But the fact that Microsoft said they'll fix it even though it was 1 month out of warranty was a total bonus, I was expecting them to say sorry it's out of warranty and will cost $160 to fix plus postage.

I've only had to send mine in once, and it wasn't for RROD. I wasn't angry, just a little disappointed that I wouldn't be playing any games for two weeks. It wasn't bad :)

I took the time today to inspect my refurbished XBox which I got back. I was disappointed to find out that the refurbished xbox was made in 2006. My original XBox was a 2007 model... so technically, I went back in time :/

I don't hate it at all because I didn't have to. My 360 is still working without any issues and its been 2 years since I bought it. What do you do with your 360s that make it break down? Modifications? Not following the advice of MS in the 360 manuals? My 360 been on like 24/7 and is still working great.

But if it did break, I don't mind. Everything breaks anytime in it's life. That's the reason of the existence of warranty.

some people may have but thats assuming that's even the issue. If you mess it up or it was something else you've just voided your warranty.

There seems to be a number of so called "fixes". I'd personally prefer to lose the console for a week or two and play it safe.

I pay ?24 a year to protect my Xbox 360 purchase! So if it does develop a RRoD (Or, even if I just decide to throw it out of a tall building for fun!) I'll just get a brand new one the same day!

It saves me the hassle and ?24 is nothing. I don't even notice the moneys left my account!

I would have submitted yes if MS would have charged me to fix my RRoD. But they didn't and they could have (launch console, did not RRoD until after 3 year warranty had expired) I did end up picking up an arcade model just for HDMI but I decided to send in to MS for repair thinking they would charge me... a few days past... called me to verify shipping address.. came back working.. so now I have a spare 360 still sitting in the bag they returned it in.. the process was fairly simple and I had my 360 back in under 10 days..

I'd say it's the other way around, if you can't find something else to occupy yourself with while its off for repairs, you have too much free time.

I know you are trying to sound wise with this useless reply, but I think you miss the point completely, it's not about occupying my time but wasting my time packing/shipping/waiting/etc... When I do have free time, which is not often enough, if my console is out for repairs it is annoying. Of course I can find something else to do, but it might not be exactly what I wanted to do.

can't you just take a heatgun to the CPU/GPU (can't remember which :p) to re-melt the soldering joints?

Do you know how risky that is? A heat gun isn't just a hair dryer or something, it melts s*** if you do it wrong. They have top temps of like 400 degrees.

Also, check out the 360's PCB and how many solders there is (N)

Well I made a service request yesterday after a month and a half with a broken 360. It was pretty painless. Only glitch was that xbox.com/service wouldn't let me register my console to my current Live ID (the one linked to my GT) because it was allegedly already registered, but that was nothing a 10 minute call to MS couldn't fix. The coffin is supposed to be here tomorrow :D

All-in-all, nothing to really hate about the process...at least not as of yet.

Where do you sign up for this?

It's product protection from where I bought it from. :p It's not an MS thing.
