Unimatrix Xero
This wednesday see's 2 new Arcade titles, nothing new there i hear you cry, but whats so different is that these two titles are a massive 1200 and 1600MS points!!! so much for the 800ms points we are used to, right? The Two new titles are Puzzle Quest:Galactrix for 1200 and Flock for 1600MS points Over the past few months ive noticed a rise in the cost of Arcade Games and its just getting to expensive (i think) to buy them. What do you guys think?
Raa
Thats insane! :(
what
Well then don't buy them. Then they'll have to reduce the prices... simple really. I doubt you're missing out on much. The original XBLA games are ****. Only the classic remakes are any good.
MightyJordan
Actually, it's normal. Haven't you seen the Penny Arcade games? There's two of them out, and they're both 1600MSP. Well, the first one isn't for this week, as it's half-price to Xbox Live Gold members, but that's still a bit much for what is basically a cheap RPG. DrunknMunky Veteran Posted April 7, 2009 Veteran Share Posted April 7, 2009 Like I was saying the other week, this is going to continue, and it's going to happen on the PSN also. Sucks, but what can you do except speak with your wallet! :/
Reacon
I remember the days when I could grab a XBLA game for just 400 ms
PiracyX
This is pretty sick really. Sony's pricing on PSN are no better, infact they are worse! most DLC cost more on PSN if u compare the amount paid for the points in whatever currency u have and u will find that its more expensive. Example; COD: World ar War Map Pack 1 Live - 800MS Points = ?6.80 PSN - ?7.99 And why is GT5:P still ?24.99! geez. Everyone points to MS for bad pricing, u only have to look on PSN and Live looks cheap.
DrunknMunky Veteran Posted April 7, 2009 Veteran Share Posted April 7, 2009 ^ what makes it even worse is CoD WaW map pack is free on the pc :pinch:
Sethos
^ what makes it even worse is CoD WaW map pack is free on the pc :pinch: And that's not even because they want to be nice to the PC users, that's strictly because as soon as they sold like, 5 it would be available all over the internet for "free"
Vykranth
The Two new titles are Puzzle Quest:Galactrix for 1200 and Flock for 1600MS pointsOver the past few months ive noticed a rise in the cost of Arcade Games and its just getting to expensive (i think) to buy them. What do you guys think? You swapped the prices: it's 1600 for Puzzle Quest Galactrix and 1200 for Flock. For Puzzle Quest Galactrix, the 1600 MSP price matches the price of the PC or Nintendo DS version ($20) so I am rather OK with it. For Flock, I have that strange twitching that won't go away: 1200 MSP is a threshold for which I want a good game compared to 800 where I would accept an OK game. So I'll get the demo and try it and I'll judge the bangs for the bucks ratio, if that's too expensive for a casual game, I'll pass.
DrunknMunky Veteran Posted April 7, 2009 Veteran Share Posted April 7, 2009 ^ but digital downloads should be priced for less than the retail equivalent's. (in reply to Puzzle Quest price)
Olemus
Example;COD: World ar War Map Pack 1 Live - 800MS Points = ?6.80 PSN - ?7.99 I must be buying my points from the wrong place 800 MS points off MS (xbox.com or the console) is ?8.50. I think it all depends on the game, I would never play 1600ms points for say a remake of sonic 3 or something but I would and most likely will be for the Wallace And Gromit and Sam & Max (telltalegames.com)games that are coming soon. +Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted April 7, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted April 7, 2009 ^ but digital downloads should be priced for less than the retail equivalent's.(in reply to Puzzle Quest price) Welcome to the lovely world of digital distribution where there is no competition to get people buying from you/visiting your store, as there is no where else they can go. Forget the fact you're saving on discs/boxes/manuals (things I'd say cost more than bandwidth, fair to assume?), let's charge the same! Sometimes you get sales and pretty good deals, but people wonder why (PSN example) people will buy the retail disc when they're getting it ?5-10, sometimes more, cheaper than retail. I bought GT5P on disc as I got it ?5 cheaper when it came out, you can probably get it much cheaper now.
Argi
As long as they're fully-fledged games I don't mind toooo much if they're priced a little higher but DLC/micro-transactions are a completely different matter altogether (big no-no - not supporting publishers that think they can do that). Smigit
I'm in two frames of mind. I don't like the prices but ultimately if it leads to better games (which is by no means a guarantee) then I'd stomach it. Honestly I'd take Braid over pretty much all the 400 points ones. Sure theres some good cheap ones but theyre a bit few and far between. Welcome to the lovely world of digital distribution where there is no competition to get people buying from you/visiting your store, as there is no where else they can go. Right on. I've bought enough games on Steam but even now most of my purchases are physical because it's cheaper to do so. Digital distributed games being cheaper because of distribution costs being wavered was nice in theory but in practice lack of competition and the desire to improve ones profit margin has seen the prices stay relatively even (sometimes more, sometimes less). It's becoming apparent now that when you go digital your not paying to have the game delivered cheaper than a retail copy but rather your paying to have it delivered more conveniently than a retail copy (which it is for many people). Sure theres sales too, but the same applies to retail.
GameOverRob
I would and most likely will be for the Wallace And Gromit and Sam & Max (telltalegames.com)games that are coming soon. Are they bringing any other games out? Like Monkey Island or Day of the Tentacle? Because I would so love to play them again!
Elessar
What's insane is that the Hasbro games (Scrabble, Yahtzee, Connect 4, and Battleship) all cost 800 points when they should only be 400...2150 points sitting in my account...just waiting to be used but i'm not going to throw my points away. MightyJordan
Honestly I'd take Braid over pretty much all the 400 points ones. I wouldn't. I regret even buying it now. Complete rip-off. It's just Super Mario Bros. with Prince of Persia elements.
Smigit
Yeah? I didn't think it was anything like Super Mario at all personally besides the 2D camera angle. Each to their own but.
Olemus
Are they bringing any other games out? Like Monkey Island or Day of the Tentacle? Because I would so love to play them again! Unfortunately their only plans atm are the Sam and Max and Wallace and Grmoit stuff, I highly doubt they would be able to do a monkey island one to be honest and i dont think i would want them to without the original story writers on it. I regret buying braid as well, very dissapointing in my opinion.
WelshBluebird
I must be buying my points from the wrong place 800 MS points off MS (xbox.com or the console) is ?8.50 points are generally more expensive from MS than from retailers. 2100 points are ?17 from amazon (or ?17.50 from other places). That makes 800 roughly ?6.50.
