NoLiMiT06
Hey guys I know there had been a bit of discussion in the past about buying your own 120gb hd and using it with the 360 but there was alot of work to get it working and for some it was out of there knowledge scope. Well I have found our solution for a great low price of $68 +shipping, I am personally getting one this Thursday and I can't wait. Here is a quote from the listing and the seller is 99.5%... DETAILS: These barebone drives have been formatted for use in the Xbox 360 console (standard 107gb after formatting), ready for use out of the box to swap out with your old xbox barebones hdd (NOTE! as I learned from personal experience, you cannot simply plop in a non-xbox formatted hdd and have it work--it has to be prepped for use in the 360, which takes a lot of time and effort to accomplish). But you don't have to worry about messing with that when you buy one of these...I've already done the hard part! These 120GB pre-formatted HDDs (w/ EZ instructions and even the tools needed, see below) offer an easy DIY solution to save over half-off retail! :) Here is the link and hopefully some of you find this useful. Read the listing for return policy etc. Cheap 120gb HDD Solution

Jeston Veteran Posted April 8, 2009 Veteran Share Posted April 8, 2009 (edited) So, he says he's done all the hard work, but really all he's done is put all the tools together in one place for you to still do it yourself... It's kind of misleading. You might as well get the drive for under $40 and find all the tools and instructions yourself and save the extra $25+. As far as I'm concerned, this guy is ripping people off. EDIT: ok, I see he's done the formatting and the tools are just for swapping with an older drive, but still, why not save the $25 and do it all yourself? NoLiMiT06
Well yea true but like I said some people don't have the suff to complete the formatting like my self. Plus you can also screw up the drive if not careful and this guy has tested each drive and offers replacement or refund if notified within 14 days. Pretty honest guy if you ask me. :p
ynnoj
So, all I'd need to do is swap the new drive into my HDD enclosure? Is that straight forward?
Lingwo
I don't know why people don't do it themselves. It is so quick andeasy to do and by doing it yourself you can keep your profile and save games, etc. Especially UK folk as it will be cheaper than doing it through this ad. Why don't we all buy computer parts and just assemble them ourselves? It's easy too. Point is that not everyone has the time or patience to do it. It's convenient having someone do it for us (Y). I am also looking to upgrade my HD but I will be doing it myself. There was a thread on the forums by I think njlouch? It had a lot of info on swapping out your 20GB HD to a 120GB :). I am unable to find it, I don't think it was njlouch but he input something to the thread lol. Edited April 8, 2009 by witalit
NoLiMiT06
So, all I'd need to do is swap the new drive into my HDD enclosure? Is that straight forward? It appears so, and if you guys read the item description you see that you can transfer all your game saves and profile. You can hook it up to your pc to do or use a memory card for the transfer. Plus this is not a ad, have no realtion to this person just trying to let people know about this since it is useful. :)

-KJ
Did ebay kill the page? I've been looking for this service on ebay for some time but I guess I couldn't put in the right terms. How did you find this? That's strange, it's working again. First time I tried to load it I got this message: This Page Is No Longer AvailableThis page may have moved or is no longer available Please try one of the following options: blah blah blah
techbeck
I bought mine 120gb a week or so ago. Was advertised at Best Buy for $150 but they were having a sale so I got it for $120. so I am happy with that. :)

I dunno if this guy will last on ebay though, he's injecting MS owned intellectual property (digital signature) into the drives, I don't think it's "legal" to sell such tampered hardware. I know it isnt the greatest dea. But when you go some place expecting to pay full price and get a $30 discount, then its a nice surprise. :)
nomis_nehc
What blows my mind though... is that it's really not all that hard to do. As long as you have all the relevant info, a careful 10-15 min of going over the instruction, and anybody should be able to do it. Heck, in the thread here on Neowin is so comprehensive that there's no plausible reason why not to do it yourself.
LingeringSoul
I actually had no idea that it was possible to place your own drive into the 360's HDD enclosure and have it work properly with the console. I'm pretty tempted to buy a drive from this guy on eBay, since he seems to be making the work a little easier, and the cost is still reasonable, at least compared to the awful price that Microsoft demands. Thanks for the heads up, NoLimit :)
