Thirtythree
Does anyone even play it anymore? EA removed all their servers and the game is ran by very restrictive clans now.

Chicane-UK Veteran Posted April 11, 2009 Veteran Share Posted April 11, 2009 Plenty of servers out there still! Still an excellent game :) Sod the digital download mate - you won't get it cheaper anywhere than this one: http://www.asda-entertainment.co.uk/asda/10015979.product A single expansion pack from EA will cost you ?5 on digital download... for another 80p you get the full game, the expansion packs and get it delivered to your door!:))

DirtyLarry Veteran Posted April 11, 2009 Veteran Share Posted April 11, 2009 Since you are all sorted and I do not want to start another thread, just wanted to say thanks to your thread about the widescreen I was inspired, I just went ahead and sorted out my missing manual with EA yesterday, they sent me a new serial, so I am installed now and ready to play. Checked it out real quick, and it brought back so many fond memories... DirtyLarryECF is back in commision. Just a question to anyone playing it... Does VOIP really not work in Vista 64 at all? I did some googling, and apparantly this is the case. Any work arounds? I have a Creative XiFi Fatality edition...
Sethos
Perhaps I should find my miners hat and shovel and go dig through my games in the basement, BF2 really was a gem back in the days.

DirtyLarry Veteran Posted April 12, 2009 Veteran Share Posted April 12, 2009 Sorry all, just saw this now and I believe I am off to bed soon, but I would 110% definitely be down to organize a time for all of us on here who STILL have BF2 to play. No doubt about it... I will even start a new thread just to see the interest. Can any of you answer if you guys are indeed playing it in Vista? And if, more importantly can you confirm if your VOIP in game indeed works or not? I have to admit, a lot of my excitement to play the game again would be taken away if I cannot get my mic working. As all you have to do is check my stats above, and you can see that out of the 147:13:32 hours that I played the game, 99:12:33 of those hours I chose to be part of a squad for the sole purpose that we all could communicate and work together. I just felt(feel) that is by far the true way to play the game, in a good squad. And while I still know there could be squad text based chat, and I am still down to give it a go, if I cannot get my mic working, it just will not be the same as it once was. I used to play BF2 on Windows Vista Ultimate x64 w/ SP1 and the in-game VOIP worked. It all depends on your sound drivers and mic. If it's compatible with a 64-bit edition of Windows Vista, it'll definitely work. (Y) /me waits for DirtyLarry's inevitable sigh of relief. In any case, I'll reinstall the game later today to "test" it.

Are you using a USB headset or a headset that plugs straight into your sound card or Motherboard? I have only been trying a USB headset, but do have some Sennheiser headphones I can try out straight into the sound card. Maybe that is the issue. I use a headset that plugs directly into the ports on my sound card. I'd try it out with a USB port but I don't have a USB headset adaptor. If it doesn't work for you while plugged in to a USB port, then that must be the cause of the issue.

Cool, I think it has to be the USB connection then for whatever reason. My PC is actually off for the night, so will check it out first chance I get tomorrow and post back to report what happens. Hopefully this is it and it works. This all made me remember that oddly enough I used to have an issue with my old XiFi card back when I did play BF2 a lot. Whenever I launched BF2 it reset the input of the mic, so I would have to Alt-Tab out of BF2 to the Creative Control Panel and manually go back and choose the correct input for my mic at the time. No driver update and the countless other things I tried were ever able to rectify the situation, so lets just say I am used to having to deal with mic issues when it comes to BF2 and Creative Cards.
