Update:

I have received my xbox360, the mainboard and dvd-drive (now benq) have been replaced. BUT, alas, my wireless adaptor must have fried when it overheated, as that has given up the ghost :( But NO fear, MS are sending me a new one out :) (Absolutely AWESOME service, you canNOT knock it).

I told them about Shooter, but they just laughed and shrugged it off. So, if anyone wants to try this film let me know :)

How do you know what was replaced? I have sent off 4 360's for repair, not once did they give me the slightest clue as to what was done to fix them.

When we wrote the firmware for the HD-DVD drive... we included a "Screw you" function if we ever lost the HD format war... about a year to two years after they all start burning down peoples houses......

you can tell sometimes by the tray layout of the drive.... they have different holes or notches in it

A fault sheet was posted back with the Xbox360 with 5 components listed. A cross was marked next to the mainboard, and also the dvd-drive.

The fact that your mobo caught flames more than likely shows you had a bad mobo to begin with. No motherboard under any standard use conditions should catch fire unless it has faulty caps. Not to mention I don't know of a single modern board out there that doesn't include the ability to shut itself off when the temperature reaches a certain threshold.

The 360 RROD while not directly caused by the movie, can be caused by the HD-DVD drive. It's no secret that the HD-DVD drive and 360 do NOT have a hardware HD-DVD decoder. It's pure software, and if I remember correctly its something like 2+ million lines of code. This means your 360 is pretty much running full bore when you are watching HD-DVD movies, so of course it heats up just like it should, and of course it breaks thanks to MS's **** poor manufacturing and quality control.

The ONLY item responsible for 360 RROD's is the hardware layout and implementation. You will find some people who swear OMG BUT XXX GAME CAUSED THIS. No. The game didn't cause it, using the system caused it, if it happened, it means it would have happened eventually. It's a fatal design flaw that has since (hopefully) been corrected in the last version released.
