+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted April 13, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted April 13, 2009 You may be unaware that The Sims 3 is out in June. But that's OK. You are not EA's intended audience. Those guys, well, those guys should by now be very aware. Because it would seem that Electronic Arts have been busy over the past couple of weeks covering what looks like every building in the continental United States with Sims 3 posters. With most other games EA put out last year contributing to the company losing a ton of money, we're getting the idea that it's hoped people will buy lots and lots of copies of Sims 3. +John. Subscriber¹ Posted April 13, 2009 Subscriber¹ Share Posted April 13, 2009 Eh, I think they're just covering all bases to get maximum exposure for June. It's been pretty quiet up until now. Maybe it's to give the public a chance to save up.
what
With the success of the previous sims, I think Sims 3 will do just fine... Until three hours after its release when people realise that it's plagued with the usual barrage of problems you get with EAs PC games.

You mean 1 week before it's released when it's leaked onto the internet?
White Cuban
it will all break down to the DRM, i bet the game will be a kicker, but will the DRM be draconic, i think thats rather the question, all sims were good, 1 was amazing, 2 was pretty good, and from what i saw, 3 is worth a Bang (from what i saw, which is bit, but sims games are always worth a play), unless theres draconic DRM, and i don't mind if it crawls and dies. furyshinobi
Haha, yeah, you're right. For those of you who are planning to download illegally this game, you should not call yourself gamers, period :p Looking forward to playing this game and from what I've read so far, there's no DRM at the moment so it's good to me :)

There was a report on Kotaku not that long ago about it only having a key and copy protection. No other DRM IIRC.
Vice
If it doesn't have DRM, doesn't 'call home' but does include a Serial (Just like the old days) then I will happily purchase this game. If however it includes DRM that is limiting, makes you sign up to some EA service or doesn't let you install it more then a few times I will give this game a miss. I played the first Sims game + expansions and I enjoyed those a lot.
spacer
Meh. I will never understand why the Sims are so popular.
scratch42069
I'll be buying Sims 3 if it doesn't have the hardcore DRM that has been in all EA games for the last year and a half. I buy new hardware often and each install counts as an activation when installing on a new platform. No amount of advertisements will win me over unless they remove the DRM (online activation) from the games and keep protection reasonable like a disc check or a cd-key check. .Neo
Meh. I will never understand why the Sims are so popular. Apparently there are a lot of people out there that don't find their own lives interesting enough. :p Jokes aside, I remember when the original Sims game came out back in 2000. It was an original concept and pretty funny to see these goofy little people do all the things you wanted them to do. For me it was the newness that made the game great, I've never really bothered with The Sims 2 beyond a few days after its initial release. It was just more of the same. Crompee
Sims 3 is insanely important to EA. I think the only current part of EA which is profitable is the sports division. They invested heavily in Spore and that was a huge failure due to both the game and the DRM fiasco, they initially hoped that it would be a best-seller to rival The Sims which they could pump out expansions for which people would buy in drones. Then, theres the case that alot of there old IP's have lost value due to EA 'milking' them.. The Need for Speed franchise, Command and Conquer, etc. These titles which used to be the pride of EA and would automatically generate profits, are no longer as people have begun to get bored of them (and arguably there are now better alternatives). EA tried to combat this early last year by trying to invest in new IP's such as Deadspace which havent got overly exciting sales figures either (even though it was a good game). All in all, its been a bad two years for EA. P.S. They announced awhile ago that The Sims 3 would only have a Serial Key for DRM (No SecuRom/Install Limits/Online Activiation). King Antonius
EA have said, the only security this will have is a Serial Key. The reason is that they said they push alot of customers away with spore and RA3 due to DRM

Excellent post and well thought out and I agree with everything. There are several reasons for the game being pushed back from its original March/April release date and the advertising is probably just one aspect of it. Hoping this gives them time to sort out the bugs.
