Titoist
My friend recently opened his own business fixing consoles and after a year in the business he has come to a conclusion. People under the age of 23 DO NOT deserve an XBox 360. The majority of consoles that came in had an RROD failure. While he is happy to get the business, he was saddend at the reasons why these people do not send their consoles in to Microsoft for repair. So here is his list of reasons of how people void warranties. #1: For some odd reason, people remove the serial number sticker from the back of the console #2: Serial number has been rubbed off through wear and tear. (Makes you wonder why these people are carrying their consoles so often that their serial number fades away) #3: CD gets stuck in tray. User proceeds by breaking open the XBox voiding warranty. (The solution to this is fairly easy actually. If it gets stuck, dont do anything. Just carefully "flick" the tray with your finger and it will open). #4: User keeps the XBox in an enclosed space. 20% of consoles that came in, including a few PS3's had melted covers. #5: Smashed XBox's... yeah thats right. Some people while gaming use them as foot stools, others throw their XBox's around like the angry german kid when gaming. #6: Failed modding. They attempted to mod their XBox but soldered in the wrong place or the wrong part. #7: Failed cleaning. A kid had their XBox so dusty that they thought it would be a bright idea to wash it with a waterhose. #8: Failed customizing. A customer came in saying that they tried to paint the cover of their xbox, so to make it look even everywhere, they dipped the entire XBox into a paint bucket.

zeta_immersion
i would have never thought of doing any of those things ... i guess one should not go down to the level of an idiot, he/she will beat you up with experience (or something similar)
+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted April 14, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted April 14, 2009 I agree with the title, if only to clear up the amount of screaming children online. As for the post, idiots will be idiots, at any age.
Richardarkless
I also have this feeling when I fix a computer for someone and then within a month they have even more problems like viruses infecting their system because they were too stupid that they forgot to download the latest virus definitions or filling it up with so much crapware but hey at least I get some money out of it lol
lawtai
haha failed cleaning is great. amazing someone would actually try that.

StaticL
They bought the system (or their parents did) let them destroy their system if they feel the need too, business should be good thanks to those idiots though lol

-Hiroshi-
Man, couldn't imagine doing that to any console I own, mainly the reason why I still have a 100% working original grey brick Game Boy that I keep, don't use it though, I use the clear cased brick Game Boy to play classics on. :)
Harreh
Gee, thanks. I own several consoles and not once has any of them broken, nor have I attempted to open them up or anything like that and they still workfine. (I think the eject system for my GC is broken, but it's not much of a problem since you can easily pry it open and all GCs are usless with the Wii now). Oh, and I'm not even 23 yet. How'd you come up with that age anyway?
Titoist
#'s 3,4,5 and 6 were done by people over the age of 18 with #6 being common with people ages 21-23.

I personally love it when someone screws up their computer or has problems with any software because they dont follow a simple instruction I give. I create a firefox profile to ease, simplify, and beautify it, next time I go there I see thousands of updates waiting. I say just let it go its only seconds worth time but for some reason they ignore.
Silverskull
15 here. I don't think anyone on Neowin is this stupid, so... yeah. I try to keep my 360 dust-free. Now the PS3, on the other hand, just collects dust.

The Teej
I'm 22, and well, I've been owning consoles since 7 and I've never treated any of mine like that. How ridiculous. Even my Game Boy from when I was 8 is in near perfect condition (1-2 small scratches on the screen, and unfortunately the screen is slightly dying due to over use from the past 14 years ). The only two consoles which don't work aren't actually in my house, and those are the NES and the Master System II. People who do that are clearly new to electronics in general and are plain idiots. I agree with both of those statements 100%! Nothing worse than logging on and having to hear all the squeaky voices trying to sound "cool" ... even worse when you can tell they have friends over and are showing off for them. At least we can mute people ...

CrashG
Dipping his xbox into a bucket of paint? Why not just remove the covers?? Because that would be the logical thing to do. It's easier just to dunk the whole thing in the paint.
SiCKX
I keep my 360 in my bathtub which is filled with water. Too scared of RROD,the media is killing me with such reports..but so far I haven't got any. Cooling system FTW.It's also silent.
