mrchetsteadman
Okay, I broke a copy of Halo 3 2 weeks ago and decided not to buy another copy. I got a great idea from my co-worker, back up my 360 games! Well I spent the money on the DL Discs and have copied only a few of my games. None of them work! Why is that? And how can I fix my 360 so that they do play. I would rather risk those back-ups than risk my retail copies. Thanks!
-Vivicidal-
I'm fairly sure it's illegal and that copy prevention in the drive itself stops you from cloning it.
Olemus
They wont play because the 360 cant read "backups" out of the box, it needs "modding" to play these (google). Think copy protection ;)
+jamesyfx Subscriber² Posted April 16, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted April 16, 2009 Yeah you can't just make a copy of a game and expect it to work. It's not going to work unless you mod the console. Which is illegal, and it gets you banned from Xbox live. Just take care of your games. Invest in a DVD stack. :p

+jamesyfx Subscriber² Posted April 16, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted April 16, 2009 It's illegal to make copies of your games. It says it on every Microsoft disc. :p 'Do not make illegal copies of this disc'. People seem to think making one backup copy of a game you own is perfectly legal, but it isn't. :p But as for modding, I don't really know - but the only way to make use of it is to make illegal copies of discs... So if you've modded your console, no doubt you'd do something illegal on it.
gigapixels Veteran Posted April 16, 2009 Veteran Share Posted April 16, 2009 This sort of topic isn't allowed at Neowin. Even if your intentions truly do not include piracy, this strays far too close to the topic and it will basically be the same in the end.
