Given this thread has gotten a bit out of control over confusion between themes and UI, I thought I'd create a new topic regarding this matter.

I want to know if you think Windows 7 will feature a new theme. Note, this is NOT a new UI, but rather visual style.

UI means user interface. Vista/7's explorer features a new UI, or "User interface" from XP, 2000 98 etc. (search box, breadcrumb, new view modes, status box etc)

Theme, or visual style will feature the same UI, (ie; explorer, stated above) but with a diferent look. (glass or not) It could use DWM or it doesn't have to.

Well... In XP different themes was "differently colored themes", in Vista/Win7 you can choose colors etc. yourself.

I'm talking about something completely different. and this is where people get confused and freak out thinking it means a New UI.

I think the new theme would be an alternative to Aero, like with new animations is 3D and other icons for min, max and close, for instance. Maybe other surprises too. I look forward to it. It would be very nice cuz I'm tired of Aero (I've being testing it since 2006).

I think the WinTeam is aware enough of all the annoyances caused by the poor customization possibilities of Vista. Therefor, I think we'll be seeing a new theme which will be showcasing the features of W7 in this field along with some documentation explaining how to make new themes for Seven. Then I wake up ...

There better be a new theme/UI because it needs a Windows 7 look and NOT the Vista look. It's harder to sell when people think it's just like VISTA.

New UI? No, new theme? Maybe, why? All a new theme would be is a new start menu and some minor tweaks every where else. Also, do we really need a second topic on this matter? All it's going to do is bring in a lot more fud than the other topic.

Given DirectUI XML hasn't been documented and it's been used side-by-side with the themes since XP...that's quite a dream. :p

If you and others read the first post, then there won't be ;)

I smell new Gadgets and a new highlight color for the whole system (or why do only the Ribbon apps and Calculator have orange highlights?).

And maybe a new Start button. And some touch apps to play around with Virtual Earth. :D

well my point of view

that 7 is just a minorversion after vista it`s version (6.1)

so no ui tweaks would be done

i think only some new themes would appear

so i vote for no

No ui tweaks?

Take a look down at the taskbar and tell me that's not a major change.
