I swear, I wonder if the person in charge of these silly ideas is still single and lives with his mother.

The name of the guy who implemented the whole aero style look in vista is Jim Allchin , and i assure you he's not living with his mother , all you can wish is to have his money and the job he had. He's now retired anyway.

Just wow. Where the hell did you get this crazy assumption from?

If they create something like the iconless command bars with no option to chose what we want on there, then its most lilky they did it because they thought it was "super duper cool!" since they were bored of not having a family.

You can create your own themes. They can include (a) wallpaper(s), sound schemes (with sound files), and cursors (with files). Maybe also screensavers, not sure about that. You can understand creating fancy themes with cursors and sounds etc isn't really Microsoft's priority. They were only added in Win98 Second Edition too...

Yet they added it to windows 98. Plus, they can hire the ultimate extras team. But knowing them, thery will screw it up

I wasnt talking about him ;)

Oh so since you don't like something, whoever thought of the idea must be a 30 year old virgin living with his mom. How mature.

Have you even considered that it's not just one person in charge of decisions like this? Or even the reasons behind iconless command bars? At first I didn't think too fondly of this decision, but now I think there are multiple reasons behind this:

- Less visual clutter.

- Text only means you'd be forced to read the button to know what it does, instead of blindly clicking it if there's an icon beside it.

- Also quite a sneaky solution to avoid creating larger sized icons so that they won't do an ugly pixellated scale in higher DPI sizes. Or better yet, to avoid updating all those Vista-styled icons on command bars.

Windows is a graphical user interface! And there are reasons why we use GUIs now instead of text based interfaces. The most obvious reason is because we can "read" colors and shapes faster than text. So there is no reason why they have removed the icons on the Command Bar or on the Start Menu shut down buttons.

Another issue is that they now have an even more inconsistent design. Classical menus and the Command Bar do look almost the same (text on a light gradient) but they do behave different! The smart thing about Vista's Command bar is that it's something like one single Ribbon Tab.

There are really some serious problems with the current design: for instance if you are on a multi-lingual system in an office, you may not know how to log off the user to switch to your account. Another problem is on the recycle bin Command bar: You really have to "think" about where to click to empty the bin. Bad design! It's silly that they have added an icon to the context menu for the Recycle bin on the desktop and removed the same icon on the Command Bar.

I presume what "theme" actually refers to is also known as a "visual style". Although I feel a new visual style is unlikely, I do believe that it would help to visually differentiate 7 from Vista, and would welcome it. However, I've also heard "Aero" represents a significant investment of work and refining, one that MS is hesitant to abandon entirely. Besides, they would have to redo all of their UI guidelines to reflect the changes...

You could be right about the Command Bar. Either way, I don't mind icons or no icons.

But there was a good reason for the Shut Down button. People were getting confused as to why their power button was yellow or red. Yellow being sleep, red being shut down. Now the power button can sport any option you want, including Hibernate.

I partially agree there. Then again, if you're using a multilingual system you should've had a firm grasp of its language to begin with. :p

And you are 300% wrong :D

The most you can expect are possibly a few changed icons and a different startup sound - they're probably leaving it until the last minute as the final surprise. They did a similar thing with Vista; the Welcome sound wasn't introduced until very very late in the development process.

Unless you have concrete evidence (i.e. insider info) then its only natural to assume that UI/theme is largely finished. Small details might change but thats about it.

Given your posts you either know something we don't know or you're trolling.

  1. True, but less is not always better.
  2. Exactly. We have to read the damn button instead of knowing what the command is.

i gave a vote to YES!!..

well i think there will be a new visual style..

many ppl think they have tweaked it already enuf the aero!..

but there are many things totally unchanged..the back reflection which i hate..

the buttons are the same..

the startmenu almost same..

style wise that is.. not the function..

the login logout screen .. the placement and icon size and all..

i really think we will have a new visual style.

mayb a DX10 one :p

wat say??

well that was a joke..

i think there will be new buttons.. different style for startmenu.. and its going to happen..

coz im seein the same buttons from the past 3 years .. and thats enuf of it!.. im tired of the same look

EDIT: and remember. microsoft say its a major release.. when we know its a minor because they just made it more efficient...

i guess releasing a new visual style will attract more ppl who arent aware how good windows 7 really is

The start menu has changed a lot. And I don't think the icon size is related to a theme, plus the login/logout screens have alredy changed.

And which 'back reflection' are you talking about?

i don't know if anyone read this but rumors of the new skin are a lot. Anyway we just have to wait and see what happens,i'm sure that if there's going to be a new visual style it'll be glass-ish still.

Yes, there are lots of rumours... but since nothing new came in the RC which is considered to be complete, I doubt anything will be coming anymore.

Nothing VISUALLY. There might be something in the regestery settings to "unlock" it

Voted Yes!

I think there should be an exciting UI for 7 cause i mean its just the same old UI from vista but with a thicker start bar i think MS should make the UI of 7 more exciting than what is now. something like what leopard has i mean the UI of leopard is attractive well 7 not so much.

lets see what the future holds:)
