Never knew this

Recommended Posts

When my Xbox went down earlier this month alot of my content I've purchased on my account wouldn't work on other gamertags on my xbox.

Xbox has a backup plan for this. Xbox License Transfer

Did anyone know of this? I just learned about it last night. (Good thing too is that I got my old Gears of War (1) gamer pictures when the game was released.

I just wanted to share this.

Yeah used it about a year ago, you can only use it once every 12 months, or so I believe!

Hopefully it was over 12 months then that means that I can transfer my content to my new Jasper Arcade, been meaning to check it for the last week or so.

underoath is trying to help out here - people with multiple gamertags can move content across those identities, it seems. once a year is pretty strict, though.

I only just clicked what this was for doing.

No idea why you can't just disable a console and re-download as much as you like. Like disable it before you send it away providing it can still turn on.

Still the average person ain't gonna change console multiple times in a year, unless your 360 is breaking.

Can't you just re-download the content on the new Xbox?
yeah thats what i did for my 2nd box

This isn't the same. Re-downloading requires you to be logged on with the correct account.

I'm glad he brought this up, I also had no idea I could do this.

Now I can play some games I had bought with another account while both offline/with my main account. Did it just now, worked like a charm.

Yes, but like I said all my other accounts couldn't play on certain maps that I've bought. All this does is let you re-download anything you've ever bought and let others use it. It allows the content to be played on a different console.

It would be pretty cheap to go over to a friends house and download the content and they are able to play it all for free basically (all you had to do is keep the parent account on the console, sign on, sign off. Get on other account. Play new stuff. Of course this is referring to their console

Sony do that, I have no idea why  Well it's obviously to let you play digital stuff at a mates, but its up to 5 consoles which is stupid for their sales.... great for us haha.

So yeah pretty decent this exists, but I've not had to swap my 360 yet.

Wait, so if i transfer the license from my brothers GT to mine, will he still be able to use the dlc? I've been meaning to get the WaW/CoD4 maps but can't afford any more points :(

No that's not how it works. Transferring licenses was primarily for people whose 360 died. When their console was returned they couldn't play DLC/XBLA games offline, you always had to be connected to Live with your gamertag. The license transfer simply lets you change the console which the DLC is linked to. So only one account can use it. At least until 12 months (I thought it was 6?) later when you can change it again.

Yes but you were signed into Live at the time.

Transferring licenses is for when you play games/DLC offline. Had you tried to play a game on an old hard drive which you downloaded on your previous 360, on a new 360, you'd get an error and it would ask you to sign in to XBL.

Transferring the license is not just for OFFLINE gameplay. I've been able to play all my (Gears 2, Halo 3, etc...) map packs without the account I've bought them on signed in. You can indeed play all the content online with a different account so for instance.

My 360 breaks (all accounts were able to play the content since the license was on my old console's serial number) now..I got a new one.

So after re-downloading all the content on UND3RxOATH I can't play the maps/add-ons on my other accounts. So I needed to transfer the license so it would be on my new console serial number. Now, all my content works on all the accounts on that console.

If you go through Microsoft to get a console replaced they set it up to transfer all of the content to the new console serial number, you don't have to do that yourself and use up your once a year one.

Its primary purpose is to play online games such as uno, etc. offline that were purchased on a different console without needing to be logged into live to verify you purchased the game. Same thing goes for map packs, etc.
