Holy Crap! 7 is FAST!

Recommended Posts

I just got my new PC.

I'm going up from a 1.8 dual core 2 gig of ram with a 9600 GT to a 3.0 QuadCore with 2 8800 GT and 2 gig ram.

Vista is GONE in my mind.

I can't even go back to it and I've only been using 7 for about 10 minutes.

Wow.

Also, does anyone know how to make the icons smaller on the desktop?

So... Windows 7 on your new PC is faster than Vista on your old PC?

Who would have thunk it.

To be fair Windows 7 is faster than Vista in most aspects so the OP would of discovered it eventually ;) Though he did discover it by an interesting method. :p

Andrew-DB, glad you are liking it, welcome to the best ever Windows.

ok fair enough but it was a stupid thing to say as seeing as its gpu driven youve 2 in sli and a much more powerful cpu plus a fresh install to boot it will be lightning fast. Evemn though i think 7 runs alot quicker than vista anyway but still a bit stupid

New system aside, after fresh installing an OS it is always going to feel fast. Vista was probably just as fast when you first installed it, but after use it starts getting bloated and running more sluggishly :(

I have had build 7000 installed since it was released, and am waiting for 7100 to appear on connect before re-installing again (I cannot be bothered downloading leaked versions etc) but i have noticed that even my zippuy clean install of 7000 has become a little slower even after this short period of time.

That said I am definitely upgrading to x64 when it is finally released, as most things now run fine on it, even creative drivers :p

I'm glad to hear this. I will be upgrading this 7 pc from a P4 3ghz with 2GB of ddr400/ati 128mb agp to a .......drum roll please...........Core 2 Quad 3 ghz, 4GB of ddr 1200/512mb gdd3 ram on pci e 2.0 something fire, lol.

I have been told this will be like a rocket ship compared to a kids wagon. I don't know about all that, but time will tell.

7100 is a bit of a dissapointment for me. 7077 x86 with 3GB RAM and single processor took 30 seconds from on to get on the internet. Shutdown was 5 seconds.

This time round, 7100 x64 startup is 50-60 seconds and 12 seconds to shut down on a dual core and 4GB RAM.

For some reason it keeps stalling. All the programs go not responding. Then I have to wait a few minutes and suddenly every is running normally. Then it will stall up again.

This is on a 3.2 Ghz Pentium D with 3GB of RAM. It's not the best PC but I run Vista on it normally with no problems.

How does the 7100 x86 run on your system with 4 GB Ram? Just wondering if it may have something to do with the x64 or not.

Wow, that's anomalous indeed. I did an upgrade and it hasn't missed a beat which is suprirsing as well. Do keep in mind that with clean installs it takes couple of boot cycles to re-create your fetch data for your programs and the like before settling down.
