Can't install Windows 7100 x64

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I've downloaded an image of Windows 7100 x64 and burned it to a DVD-RW. When booting from the DVD the setup throws an error:

Windows Boot Manager - Windows did not start correctly...

Status: 0xc00000e9

Windows encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to

your computer. This error can be caused by unplygging a removable storage

device while the device is in use.

Error appears after "Windows is Loading Files" straight after booting from

the DVD.

I've searched Google but wasn't able to find a solution to what seems to be somewhat a common problem. Tried burning the image at a slower speed (2x - 2.4x), tried disabling all usb devices but with no luck.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? Could it be caused by a corrupt image?

I've got an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, so yes it is 64bit compatible. Tried doing a clean install, not an upgrade. Installed in a VM just fine, so yeah I guess it's a problem with the image.

OK, I've downloaded the 64bit image from microsoft.com and still got the same error with it. Then tried the same disc on my work pc and the setup worked just fine. So is there something wrong with my home pc? Vista SP1 x64 installs just fine, so does Windows 7100 32bit.

if you have a 4GB USB drive try installing on that, there are a few tutorials around that can help you out with that.

also have u tryed starting the install from windows 7? or have u been booting off the dvd on start up

It sounds like your drive is having trouble reading the disc. You can try blowing it out with some canned air, or try what dafin0 suggested and install it from a USB stick if you have one.

I've redownloaded and reburned the image on my work PC using ImgBurner and still received the same error on my home computer. I've even tried changing the hard drive, but still no luck.

I can't boot from an USB stick, since my BIOS doesn't support that. However I don't think there would a point in this either, this after burning the DVD I've run a validation check, and ImgBurner gave out no errors. So it's obviously something wrong with the x64 setup of Windows 7. Hope they manage to fix it till the final release.

I don't buy it, since I'm running 7100 x64 (and have for two weeks). This is my second install (the first one was a side-by-side install with Vista Ultimate x64; this one was installed clean) of this build on my ASUS P5N-EM HDMI. Also, are you installing from the same drive that burned the DVD? (I have one DVD drive that will only accept burns from another made at 1x; burns made at any other speed won't work.) Cross-compatibility between DVD burners is still an issue, especially at speeds above 1x, as much as we all hate it.

For side-by-side installs (or even upgrade installs), consider installing from a *virtual drive*. I've used SlySoft/Eleborate Bytes' VirtualCloneDrive (freeware) to mount Windows 7 in Vista (both 32-bit and 64-bit) and install that way (my last use was to do an upgrade install in Vista Ultimate 32-bit).
