ZedFighter
Hi all, long time lurker first time poster. I've always loved the ability to grab all my app shortcuts, toss'm in a folder and make them into a New Toolbar, dock it at the top, auto hide and bam there it is easy quick instant access to everything from apps to drives to other network locations etc. Have they done away with this ability now? I've googled until I can't google anymore and have come up empty handed. I also think the Windows Explorer in the Taskbar is novel at best and filling my Taskbar with shortcuts isn't my cup of tea. I apologize if this has been addressed already but I'm all searched out :( Thanks for reading.
wehavetogoback
right click on taskbar > toolbar > new toolbar -__-? BTW, by adding toolbars you create redundancy. Why on earth you want to do that. You can put drives or folder already in the first level of the start menu.
Chris-Gonzales
and in windows 7 on the taskbar (as an icon)

Obviously... you can create new toolbars all day long but you can't pull it off the taskbar any more.

If Vista (and possibly Windows 7, I don't know), you can create your toolbars by dragging just about any folder from windows explorer to any edge of the screen. There's a decent article on it at Vista Revisited. Hope this helps.
hdood
Yeah, I don't know if it's there anymore. It's one of those features that caused more problems than it solved because people would be dragging icons around and end up accidentally creating toolbars and not being able to figure out how to fix it. ZedFighter
Never heard of jump lists uh... :) While the Jump List feature has it's place and is nice for some folks. It's not the solution to my problem. If it was I wouldn't have posted. I'll bold it this time: ONE CLICK ACCESS not right click, left click or one click, two click. ONE CLICK. Currently the only way to have one click access is to put all your shortcuts on the Taskbar (providing they all fit) or the Desktop. And I don't like either of those methods. Unfortunately no this method doesn't work in Windows 7. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- OK so I'm getting the feeling that I'm pretty much screwed. Why Micro$oft would get rid of such a great feature is beyond me. If this is the case then where would I locate all my shortcuts to be accessed with a right click on the Explorer icon in the Taskbar? l Ancient l
It appears that you cant... In Vista you could drag a folder onto the edge of the screen and it would make a toolbar, but I couldnt do that in seven... And this has already been discussed here - https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?show...22388&st=15 But hey, you could always get a gadget... Here are some: App Launcher, Quick Launch If you have time, you can always modify those gadgets to be more suitable for you, like design etc ;)
hdood
OK so I'm getting the feeling that I'm pretty much screwed. Why Micro$oft would get rid of such a great feature is beyond me. Because millions of people ended up with unwated toolbars all over their screens. I agree that not adding the functionality to the new Explorer was a little drastic, but the implementation was broken from the very beginning and should at least have been made more difficult. Antiprophet
sounds a bit redundant to me alright, a million and a half other ways to get that. hell, even Rainmeter can do that
ZedFighter
sounds a bit redundant to me alright, a million and a half other ways to get that.hell, even Rainmeter can do that Yes because using a gadget that uses resources (whether small or large isn't the point) and is just annoying crap on your Desktop versus a method that's simpler, more effective and uses zero resources is the pro way to go right? All they did was take a simple, effective function and tossed it out because a few random stooges with the IQ of a shoe couldn't use it without major failure... awesome! Oh well I guess I'll conform and follow like a good boy :x
hdood
I don't think it was tossed out as such. It was just not added at all when parts of the shell was rewritten for Windows 7 because few people used it (except by accident). That's life. ozgeek
I'll bold it this time: ONE CLICK ACCESS not right click, left click or one click, two click. ONE CLICK. You can add shortcuts to the taskbar. You only need one click to acess the jumplist - just click and drag a shortcut upwards and a jumplist should popup. Agreed with others. I make this mistake of creating unwanted toolbars when I work on explorer. Have you ever heard of dock programs like rocketdock? They do what you want if you don't like the taskbar. Pikey
I've always loved the ability to grab all my app shortcuts, toss'm in a folder and make them into a New Toolbar This was always my favorite way of organizing things ... even different toolbars for different things, such as 'Office' .. 'Games' .. etc, etc, but since win 7 come along I've just drifted away from that and now do things differently. I'm quite happy now with the new 'Superbar' ... Ye I also liked to do that in XP, mainly because there was no other normal way to organize your stuff... But in Vista there was the start menu search and it made it so much easier, I mean I have a lot of apps, but I hardly use em all the time, so I just placed the ones i use more often on the desktop and thats all... In seven its even waaay better than in Vista because of the Superbar and the jumplists...
donchen
Is it possible to pin my secondary harddisk on the task bar? When i try to do that, it adds it to the jump list under the folder. I don't want that. I want an icon by itself at the taskbar.

Create a folder name it what you like, you can now place your drives on this toolbar and they will remain there, move this toolbar where ever you like it on the taskbar, relock and your done. Your welcome donchen Sorry I haven't played around with changing the icons a whole lot so I can't help you there but you can always experiment with it and see what happens, I don't really think it would hurt anything to do so.
