Is it Safe to Use Windows 7 RC as Main OS?

Recommended Posts

Hello there Guys, I haven't posted here for a Long time and for that I am really sorry. I just been busy with life and college and of course work. But I just wanted to get your guys opinion on Windows Vista SP1 vs Windows 7 RC. Right now I am using Vista SP1 and I don't have any problems, but I was just wondering if it is safe to use Windows 7 RC (Build 7100) as Main OS?

Your Thoughts Please?

Most people are, but I'd say best of both worlds is dual-boot, you can easily jump back after it expires/if you run into any problems.

I'm using it as a main OS but I'm dual-booting with XP.

First day today using it as my main os for work and Ive run into a few things, Dreamweaver CS4 has lots of issues, using CS3 instead solves that.

Otherwise, its been bliss so far.

How easy is it to upgrade to RC2 and RTM and so on..

Do you need to re-install all your apps and customize it how you like it everytime you upgrade ?

I've been holding off because i didnt like the idea of starting again every time a beta became available.

I have been itching to try it though, i love being up-to-date.

Been using it as my main OS since 7000 and havent had any problems yet, well apart from Spotify not working on 7077 but hey I can live with that. I find the RC build much faster than any of the previous builds, so I would say yes go for it !!!

there won't be an RC2 if everything goes as planned

you do need to do a fresh install for RTM since this is a non-final build.

If it works for you then by all means use the RC as your main OS. It seems pretty solid and all Operating Systems have bugs that show up over time so you will never be perfectly safe.

It's my main OS since build 7000. I've had a couple of blue-screen with RC 7100 x64 (clean install) all related to a file AFD.SYS - Never had that with the older builds.

I have Adobe CS4 Master running fine, been using Photoshop/Illustrator without any problems.

Vista was wiped out of my HDD since build 7048.

Jumping on the wagon here, been running W7 as main since b7000, 7100 is pretty much perfect in my eyes, super solid, drivers, fast, useful, easy... everything.

I did all upgrades since Vista, vista 64bit -> 7000 -> 7057 -> 7068 -> 7077 -> 7100.

You guys are off the hook. Thx for the input guys. I do have build 7077 installed right now, but the problem is that I am using Vista as my main os. I am gona redoing my PC this week, cause I just bought the New Raptor 150GB that will be my Main HD and I am also gona go from 4GB System Ram to 8GB System Ram. Again thx for the input and I will be sure to share my experiance with you on me using Windows 7 RC (Build 7100) as Main OS.

It is safe but Vista is fine for me and it works pretty much the same so I am waiting for the final release. I don't want to have to be reinstalling and installing wasting my time. BTW 8GB of ram is really pointless at this point. I tried it and my ram usage never passed 2.5GB with tons of programs open so i sent 4GB back to Newegg.

I'd say it's definitely at a stage to use it as a main OS. I have been using it as main OS since beta (7000).

Do we need a thread like this every time a new build is released?

why not? this section of the board is pretty dead in the interim between releases. :p

For you chaps that have already tossed away Vista..what about your licenses, don't you think you lot are jumping the gun too early...?

Back on topic:

I have been dual booting but wouldn't get rid of Vista and i don't think anyone should do so, still on testing chamber.
