Nikole
Hello. I have just got a new computer but need to reformat my sstem disk. How can I do this from the original win xp disk? When i boot from cd it automatically goes through to windows on my hdd Surely I can by pass this somehow. I have no other boot cd with dos on it which would obviously be the easiest way nor can I get one. The computer I use for this internet connection has no floppy nor dvd/cd drive or working usb. I am to far away to acces any other computer for this aswell. I can not access the internet from my new computer either. This all really sucks. So can I format my hdd from windows or any other means.??? thanks for any help you can provide.
Volatile
Well you would need to boot from the CD even when installing. You would either have a setting in the BIOS to make the CD ROM the first device in the boot order or you would just hit a boot options key like F12 to select the CD ROM to boot from. Within the XP install you will have the option to format.
alpha_omega
Insert your XP CD, boot from it, when it says "Press F6 to..." you press F10 and it'll boot straight into the recovery console. There you can format easily.
