DrunkenBeard
Hey, - It's been a long time since I played an MMORPG (3 years actually) and I thought I may give it a go. So, basicaly, I'm asking if Lineage II is fun enough to spend some hours playing it ? When I say "fun" I mean : big world, customizable characters, a good community and a fair difficulty level. If you have other MMORPGs in mind feel free to suggest them :)
eXtermia
I played it I liked it until I had to get techincal support. I was an early adopter of Windows XP 64 and NCSOFT said I was hacking because (cheating) they didnt have a driver that worked in Win Xp 64 at the time for their anti cheat software. So my client came as non authentic.. The promptly banned my account no questsions asked and I closed tickets without answering them whenever I tried to justify it and then still tried to charge me for months. I had to end up getting VISA involved to get them to quit.

Fuzzymath
It still 'looks' good, but the over all game world has been trashed over the years. You're better off waiting for another game. NCSOFT has a new one coming called Aion. It should be out in the US soon, and it looks like a better shot for someone that might be looking for a L2 type game - that they'd still stand a chance with. Prosidius
I started playing Guild Wars lately when I get bored in WoW but I dont have enough experience yet to reccomend it. You could try WoW, its time consuming but if you do Recruit a friend with someone you can get to 60 awfully quick and 80 maybe 2-3 weeks thereafter depending how often you play. With blizzard making WoW casual friendly it's not hard to obtain decent gear at 80 but if you're interested in pvp I still find it hard to start out in, since the only way to obtain pvp gear is by...pvping(go figure!) and you'll get wrecked until you get resilience. DrunkenBeard
Well, actually i'm not interested in PvP, nor I'm I interested in quickly lvling. I just want something fun, with a big beautiful world to explore, customizable characters and a cool community. I won't be spending tooo much time playing, so it won't really be some hardcore gaming, just a "relaxing" solo party.

You can get 10 day trials pretty much anywhere so it doesn't hurt to give it a whirl.

It takes forever and a day to get some place and I found the leveling very slow for the time I did play it. If you want really fast leveling and infinite content(due to new player created missions) then you might want to try City of Heroes instead as your MMO. It has crafting, pvp, travel powers, time travel, alien invasions, zombie invasions. If you want a free trial let me know I can send you one via email. Prosidius
Well the one thing I like about WoW is the zones are not instanced. So you can run into others questing and things like that. I know Guild wars at least the zones are instanced other than the main cities. The one problem with WoW is finding a group to run the leveling instances, since most servers have matured, most people dont run them anymore. ylcard
I don't mean to offend you Adamb10 but that's just not true, I can see where you're coming from, but I believe it's simply lack of patience. It's the "mature" servers that actually have people going through instances (low'ish level), if by "mature" you mean old servers with lots of players. Almost every single player has an alt (if not more), and they know their way around the world, so they look for people to do instances they need. It's not like total newbies go to every single instance just for the heck of it - by the way.
Joseph B
Lineage II was a great MMO in it's time, but I always felt like it was just trying to be too much like FFXI. FFXI still has an okay playerbase if you want to check that out, but the game is so time consuming to ever hit the highest level (75). I can only imagine how long it would take to hit 75 now that there are considerably less players compared to 2004. I would wait for NCSoft's Aion, to be released in the USA.(And if you're not in the USA, then check local stores to see if it is already out.) It looks like it has some true potential to be the next great MMO. There is also Warhammer, but if you like that kind of an MMO world i'd suggest just picking up WoW. LOC Veteran Posted April 29, 2009 Veteran Share Posted April 29, 2009 It's pretty much a dead MMO right now.. Are you kidding? In Korea alone it still hovers around 2 million subs, and I'd guess a good 500,000 for the rest of the world. There are plenty of people still playing this game.
