kyller
Is there any possibility of WMP12 supports for subtitles, like SRT, SUB etc? Would be awesome, with the fact that now we can watch MPEG-2, MOV, H264 and MKV files in windows media player... there will be no need to install ffdshow or MPC. hdood
Yep! The VobSub filter works fine in WMP. Just save it somewhere safe and run "regsvr32 C:\Path\To\VSFilter.dll" to install.

hdood
What did it say? Remember that you have to run the command as administrator (right-click on Command Prompt in the start menu and hit Run as administrator, then run it from there) because it's installed system-wide. Once it's installed and you play a file with subtitles in WMP, you should get the green VobSub icon in the notification area.
08993
I used Direct Vob Sub on 7100 x64 and it works just fine.

hdood
That means you ran it without administrator.
kyller
That means you ran it without administrator. :o I was shift-clicking the Run shortcut in Start menu, because the "Run as Administrator" didnt appear when i right-clicked in the shortcut. Now I've opened the CMD (with the context menu) and it WORKED! Thank you very much! ahh... if you don't mind, i have another question... why the subtitles are prettier in MPC than WMP? Please look at the screenshots: MPC-HC: http://localhostr.com/files/d50c56/capture.png WMP12: http://localhostr.com/files/596bf7/capture.png Is because MPC-HC is using ffdshow, and WMP12 is using VSFilter? I dont believe this because the settings panel, from both VSFilter (click) and MPC-HC (click) are exactly the same...
hdood
Well, the subtitles are shown at the same resolution as the video, so if the video has a low resolution so will the subtitles. I believe there is an option under the General tab in the VobSub options that will let you double the resolution. You could try that and see if it improves things. I don't have a mkv file here to do test, but it was announced (Thurrott and even on Neowin) that in RTM would be possible to read that files in WMP12... Link? I haven't read that anywhere. Google turns up nothing but old rumors which didn't pan out. Edited April 28, 2009 by danielsmi
