NEVER85
I just installed Devil May Cry 4 today, and when I try to start up the game, regardless of whether it's DX9 or DX10, I get this error. I'm pretty damn sure a game as recent as DMC4 isn't a stoneage 16-bit application. Has anyone had this error? And if so, how do you resolve it? Thanks. +Mystic MVC Posted April 27, 2009 MVC Share Posted April 27, 2009 Just thought I'd ask because I saw Windows 7 in your signature, but you aren't trying to run it under Windows 7 are you?
NEVER85
Just thought I'd ask because I saw Windows 7 in your signature, but you aren't trying to run it under Windows 7 are you? I am, although I didn't think that would be an issue. Every other game I've tried has worked just fine, some dating as far back as Diablo II. I figured it would give me a different error if it were just incompatible with the OS, instead of a 16-bit application error.

Well I'm not sure why it would give you that error but it seems like Windows 7 is the likely culprit. It has a good track record of most things working with it, but with extremely new games for the PC, you can never be sure.

Olemus
Looks like a standard x64 error to me? Happens very rarely but I think it wont run on an x64 OS and needs x86 EDIT: I did a quick google and it seems that some people have it working with no issues in x64 and others cant get it to work at all in x64. Strange, maybe a reinstall of DMC
NEVER85
I've done a re-install. I managed to get past the error, but when I load the game, all I get is a blank screen. No sound, no video, nothing. Happens in both DX9 and DX10.
NEVER85
Just for the hell of it, I tried again, with a fresh install of Vista SP2 x64. Same exact issue with the 16-bit application error.

Xtreme2damax
I run this game fine on Vista 64-bit, runs quite decently too. :) I'm not sure what your problem could be though, game also ran fine for me the last time I had Windows 7 beta installed.
