Media Center basic functions do not work

Recommended Posts

Greetings,

I have currently Windows 7 RC1 , Build 7100 64bit Ultimate. This is a fresh install, not an upgrade.

Problem is, many of the media center remote buttons do not work such as:

  • pause
  • play
  • skip/forward
  • next/previous chapter
  • stop

I'm using a genuine Microsoft remote and receiver, not an imitation.

I've had the same problem in about several different builds of W7 that I've tested over the last few months. All were fresh installs, 64bit.

Anyone else have this problem? It also has nothing to do with the DVD movies I've tried, I've tried several different ones anyway so its not the DVD problem.

Thanks.

Silly question, but does MCE have focus while you're using the remote? The remote just sends normal keypresses like Space / Enter.

Thanks for the fast replies. That's what I love about Neowin.

First, I did already try unplugging the receiver and back in. Never solved the problem, but that was a past build. Same thing again on 7100.

Also, yes the MCE window is 'on top', in focus.

The strange thing is, some functions work such as 'ok' (or select), DVD menu, back but not the basic functions.

A bit off topic: The remote just sends app commands like "MEDIA_PPLAY", and not keyboard keys.

I've not had any problems with the remote in any of the builds i've tried, since build 7000 x64.

MC must have focus, not a problem when run full screen.

I hate that when full screen you cannot move focus to an other screen.

Not entirely, Ok is just enter for example, the arrow keys are normal arrow keys, Back is backspace. MEDIA_PPLAY is actually a keyboard key as well, its what media controls on keyboards send.
