Windows 7 Annoyances

Recommended Posts

I miss 'Restore previous folders at logon'

Who's stoopid idea was it to remove that? I've heard, it's supposed to be Win 7's default behaviour.

Hasn't worked yet.....

In regards to #4 there is a good workaround for spanning wallpaper across multi-monitor setups.

Step 1: figure out your total desktop resolution (2 monitors side-by-side at 1280x1024 = 2560x1024, for example)

Step 2: create or resize an image to this exact resolution

Step 3: set this image to your desktop and set the "picture position" to "Tile"

Also if you want different wallpapers on each screen you can do the same thing: just create the large image and put the two monitor-sized images side-by-side on it.

I'm glad someone pointed this out. How do so few people know about it? It's been like this since Vista was released.

Not only that, but a quick Google brings up the above plus several tools that make it even easier.

1. no file size summary in the "details pane." Only shows how many items. Now I have to select all files and choose properties and then i can see what size they use.

2. can't "breadcrumb" up to the desktop

3. few windows are actually affected when changing window color

4. must go to Advanced - Monitor to change screen refresh rate.

5. high dpi mode doesn't scale icons in task bar and notification area properly

6. gui not hardware accelerated.

7. can no longer close windows by right clicking their tab in task bar and pressing "c" on the keyboard.

8. long filenames are truncated and hidden.

9. Difficult to select files (not much space between file icons)

10. main window shadow too thick, hides too much of the windows behind

1) Works here

2) Inaccurate - you can breadcrumb up, you just don't have a 'user' folder location by default (Intro of Libraries) - Add a favorite location

4) Not Win7 specific

5) I believe that is a graphics driver issue, has been spotty for me (same as the extra bar shadow, which honestly annoys me more cause Vista did the same thing at RC)

6) FALSE

7) You can, but jump lists may make this prohibitive (Same as start menu) - I'd love to see a close application/window shortcut -> WIN+Q!

8) Not Win7 specific

9) Think you refer to the general changes Vista brought to Explorer, again not Win7 specific.
