Windows 7 will benefit slower machines more then

Recommended Posts

machines built on i7 or X4 platform with insane amout of memory 4 or 6gb+.

To be honest, i can't see a damn difference between Vista and Windows 7 except for UI changes. To me these two operating systems are =.

I guess any optimisations done in Windows 7 do not matter on high end fast machines, cause they run Windows fast anyway. I compared fully loaded Vista with SP2 Escrow with clean Windows 7 install and i didn't find Windows 7 better performing in any of the tasks.

When games and other high CPU/RAM/hard drive utilizing applications become even more strenuous on the system (i.e. Crysis will be the "norm") is when you will notice a difference between Vista and 7. From the looks of it we aren't that far away given the unwavering progress in CPU and GPU technology and advances in cost effectiveness of RAM.

You're comparing them with top of the line hardware, obviously they'll seem equal in performance. Use low-end hardware and you'll notice the difference.

Vista runs very fast on all machines with 2GB RAM and a dual core CPU.

i'm not running a dual core but a AMD64 3200 at stock with 2gb of ram and it runs wonderful.

Sheesh. Give them time. If there's that much of a problem on the i7 systems they'll take care of it with a post release patch if needed, just like they'll eventually introduce USB 3.0 support into the OS.

I dont know.. Im on a Dell Precision 390 with a Core2 Duo 6400 @ 2.13Ghz, 2GB or RAM, 64 bit etc etc..

Vista ran like crap on here. It reminded me of running Windows XP on my old Pentium III 667.

And this was a brand new almost 'top of the line' Dell when I bought it. Put Vista on it from the first beta all the way to when we got our Volume copies and nope..

Id hate to see how Vista runs on a regular old P4 3.0Ghz..

Im one of the IT admins here at work and after running it for a month said there was no way in hell any of our users were getting Vista. Theyre still all running XP.

I installed Windows 7 this past january and threw away my Vista disc.

Win 7 is light years ahead of Vista in performance.

When Win 7 comes out, Im finally moving our users beyond 2002 and XP.

Now we just gotta get the server guy to get off his ass and update all the servers to Windows 2003 6 years after the fact..

I agree. I loaded 7 on my old Dimension 3000(P42.4/512/Intel Extreme) that I was using for Linux and was shocked to see how well it performs. I wouldn't dream of putting Vista on there, even Basic. Even the non-aero theme looks slick and responsiveness is as good as XP down to instant search.

Yeah vista is very fast on my mid range machine (X2 5600+, 4 gb ram) and although window 7 is nice didn't notice any speed difference.

I installed Windows 7 beta build 7057 on my Old and gold Acer with 512 MB ram .. It worked really great... Its damn enough for normal use..

Windows 7 is best for netbooks , which are having less memory and atom processors :D

ATi 9600 (128mb ram, lol)

7 is plenty fast, as my laptop has 256 and it worked just great while I had it on there. Its the best OS ever made, no question. I love linux all you 'nix heads! I'm 33 and I'm a PC. Windows, life without wallz. :woot:
