Fix Folder View Type Problem in Windows 7!

Recommended Posts

As some of you may know Windows 7 still has the same issue that vista has with the folder views getting messed up.

Some software can cause this to happen. Like BSplayer for example.

Anyway after using the Registry fix found at the following site this probelm is 100% fixed for me!!

So what I would really like to know is why can't Microsoft include this fix into Windows 7????

What folder type problem?

Windows 7 doesn't have the bug with folders forgetting their view settings, that was fixed.

There's an issue with music folders though. If you have the folder.jpg in a folder and Mp3s in that folder with the folder.jpg embedded into the MP3 file it shows 2 folder images on the outside of the folder! It never did this with the beta of Windows 7 and it certainly doesn't do it with Vista or XP.

Window's view settings seem to change depending on how you navigate to that folder. For example, if I click Downloads in my Favourite links and customise the view for general documents, the view stays like that, but only if I navigate to it that way. If I then go to Computer, D:\, Downloads, the view is customised for Music. If I set it to general documents then it remembers it.

I am not insane.

I had the view bug in beta 7000 actually. I'd have my \Video folder set to list view, then jump to another folder for books/comics I have from my favourite link, now for that I have loads of folders it's setup by title\volume\chapter etc, so as I go there, make a few new folders etc, then go back to my \video folder, it's not in list view anymore and back to the default details view it was at first.

This could be because I have a growing number of folders? Each time my video or comic folder would change I'd change it back to list view, but then i'd find either one or the other back to default again.

No not really true.

If you install BSplayer and use Internal Renderer Overlay (Default) it will stop Aero from running which then resets all the folder views. And the only way to set them again is to restart windows explorer.

See Internal Renderer Overlay (Default) is not compatable with Aero.

So it seems when Aero gets turned off by a program it will reset folder views.

Give it a try.

That link with the Registry fix stops the folder views from being reset.

Microsoft should include this Registry fix in the Windows 7 OS!

Too everyone here who thinks this is fixed in Windows 7 please do the following!

Install BSplayer and use the Internal Renderer Overlay (Default

And see what happens to your folder views!

Why would you still use BSplayer in the first. It used to be great untill they uberbloated it.

mkplayer is a much better player now, and it defaults to EVR on Vista and 7. which is much better as well

Wouldnt it then be bsplayer fault for incompatability and not MS fault?! What if you where to run bsplayer in compatability mode say Win XP SP3 mode? My folder views have been excellent with Windows 7!

Folder view persistence has nothing at all to do with Aero / DWM.

Umm, this isn't a "fix." All it does is disable per-folder persistence and folder type detection in a totally unsupported way.

So you have some buggy software that corrupts the registry and you want to encourage people to install it?

Kind of an offtopic question, Brandon, but was this also fixed in Vista SP2?

I dunno about BSPlayer etc, but like my first post, I get it after making a few new folders and then going back to my video folder which has it's view reset. Or going to my comics\manga folder and seeing it's view also reset to the default details setting when I have both it and my video folder set in List view.

This was in build 7000 and since I haven't used anything newer as of yet I dunno if it would happen again. But again it could just be that I have too many folders and new ones somehow override older view settings? I dunno.
