Automatic volume level changes *hugs Windows 7*

Recommended Posts

I don't know if this was in Vista or not (most probably not) but I just noticed that Windows 7 now remembers volume level when headphones are plugged in. Try it.

Set volume for your main speakers, plug in headphones and then set to some other level. Plug out - volume back to what it was - plug back in and volume is again set to headphone settings.

One more reason why Windows 7 rocks  I am still build 7057  waiting for 4/30.

p.s. I know that certain other OS can do this since last 3 versions at least. But let's not start on that.

yeah noticed this yesterday.. ALSO what freaked me out, and I don't know if this is part of TF2 or what, but I was listening to Pandora, and went to join a game in TF2... 7 automatically turned down my pandora volume to a lower level once I got in game in TF2. I was like WOW

Vista did the same thing, but it does depend on how your sound card drivers handle the headphones. If they pop up as a new device when you plug them in, then it will remember. If they don't, then it won't.

Whoa, I never noticed that before. Actually, now that I think of it, I thought I turned the volume down to zero and then realized that is was actually turned up a little while later. I must have unplugged my headphones and didn't know about this feature.

This is pretty useful actually because I usually turn the volume off for my laptop speakers so I don't disturb others and I have to turn the volume up when I'm using headphones. Now it does it automatically.

This happens way too often. For some reason, every time remove the power adapter for my laptop or plug it in, the volume just seems to randomly turn on in Windows 7. One time I did not realize this happened before shutting down my computer and then when I restarted it in lecture, the login chime was playing at max volume.

I thought you were referring to how it lowers the levels on certain inputs when it detects other foreground input (makes listening to internet radio and using in-game voice chat much easier).

Like Mio said, I thought the base foundation for what you describe came with Vista's new audio handling + device/driver support.
