Recommended Posts

There seems to at least a couple of different expiry dates floating around .. not sure why that would be!

Anyway here's mine .. it's a UK regional install btw

Have you never heard of time zones?

The expiry date is based on local time at 1 minute to GMT. Once we in the UK turn our clocks back in October the expiry date will change to 01/03/09 23:59 because currently we're on BST or GMT +1 but then we'll be back to GMT.

In other words it expires everywhere at 23:59 GMT on the 1st of March 2010 but the date and time shown is the users local time at this point.

How come my installation does not have an expiry date at all?

type into startmenu this: winver

and press enter, and there's the date.

[ NOOB QUESTION ALERT ]

:pinch:

how do I open up the "About Windows" window to see my exp. date?

edit :: ehh never mind, nyolc8 answered the question... :p

2nd edit :: I have an exp. date (2.3.10) even though I had activated my win7 with a key from MSDN... why?

I'm going to assume you activated Windows...

I did activate Windows.

type into startmenu this: winver

and press enter, and there's the date.

OK, I got it now. Somehow 'About Windows' from Explorer isn't showing the expiration date while 'winver' does.

Same date here AR.

oh boy!! yeah you can activate a RC1 copy, but that doesn't mean you can run it forever!! you have to pay for that, and is not a final version.

So? You can still run Win 7 RC until the expiry date as an evaluation copy without issue as a main OS. You'll continue to get updates until the expiry date.

With the exception of Windows Defender, what makes you think that?
