briangw
Well, I can say this doesn't work for HP's OpenView Service Desk ticketing application which does not work at all in Windows 7 (Issues with ADO). When starting Service Desk in XPM mode, it gives an error. Didn't know VMWare could do this and we have a license at work :)
-Hiroshi-
Actually, FYI VMWare installs more drivers. The only driver VPC installs is for networking and it has never caused me a BSOD. Not to mention VMWare is not free. Ok? Like I said, I don't care if it's working for you or not, it works for some, but not all. Anyway, as I never got far enough into the installation of XPM to see what it looks like when it's integrated into the taskbar, does anyone have any screenshots of it in action? Ambroos
I did peek into EULA and it seems, you can use whatever environment, as long as it's virtual and inside Windows 7. "The Software contains the Windows XP operating system described above within the Virtual Hard Disk ("VHD") image format. Virtual machine ("virtualization") software is required to use the Software, and virtualization software that supports the VHD format is recommended but is not required to use the Software." There is even a key.txt file containing the product key in Virtual XP installation folder. Of course other software does not have the same integration features as Virtual PC and you may have to call in for activation, but it's still nice, they let you use other stuff as well. That means we may actually be able to boot from the VHD since Windows 7 can do that... (tries it out)
hdood
That means we may actually be able to boot from the VHD since Windows 7 can do that...(tries it out) No. Only Windows 7 can boot from a VHD. You can't boot arbitrary versions from one.
Subject Delta
Ok? Like I said, I don't care if it's working for you or not, it works for some, but not all. Apart from the fact this is a totally new version of VPC, I have been around several big tech forums and you are the first person that I can ever recall claiming that VPC gave them a BSOD, and to be honest your nonsense about "rouge drivers" just shows how much you really know about them, considering that all Virtualisation software has to install some virtual device drivers to allow integration. Minifig
Anyone know if the Intel Core2 Extreme's have capability for Virtualization? I'd kinda like to tinker around with XP a bit.
piedpiper09
Yes, it's a better solution, maybe you should try it before attacking it. It's also better because it does have 3D hardware acceleration, 32-bit color mode, nearly ten times faster than Win VPC, and doesn't leave your PC begging for mercy with shoddy drivers that work for most and not for some.Oh wait, installing this and installing VPC in the same OS might cause random bluescreens, so I guess you can't try it now, good luck removing VPC and the rogue drivers it installs. Can you help a noob? How to install video driver and get 32 bit colour? How to intergrate with win7 - right now it's in a windows?
Churma
Anyone know if the Intel Core2 Extreme's have capability for Virtualization?I'd kinda like to tinker around with XP a bit. Yes you can, make sure you enable the virtualization in your bios. After doing so power off the computer, unplug it, power it up draining all the power, then plug it back in and let it rip. I had to get mine going this way on two of my simular rigs. Works just fine.

Dowload this utility from MS Intel? protocol7
Any reason why the clipboard integration has suddenly stopped working for me? I'm trying to copy some programs and folders into the VM but nothing is getting to the VM's clipboard. I didn't like the all-or-nothing shared drives option so that's turned off. Copy/paste is the only easy way left to get stuff into the VM.

protocol7
You could use DropBox? You mean online filehosting? Sure it's an option, but hardly a satisfactory substitute for right-click copy/right-click paste. I tried disabling and re-enabling the integration from the VM menu and now not only does copy/paste still not work, but the display is stuck at 800x600 and won't go any higher. Next stop will be Programs and Features...

Restart your OS and it should be in your start menu. Anyone got this working in VirtualBox? Win7 installs fine and most of the Guest Addition works fine but when running XPM in Win7 using VB it comes with this: VT-x in VB is enabled and my processor is enable. I think it's too premature, yet, for it to work. If anyone got this working, let me know, want to get Windows on Window on Windows working ;)
hdood
Er, are you asking if you can run a virtual machine inside a virtual machine? If so, the answer is no, it is not possible. The virtual machine only has emulated hardware available, meaning its irrelevant what the settings are on the host machine.
