Windows 7 RC now on MSDN

Recommended Posts

Downloading now. If you could all wait until my download is done before hopping on there, that would be great! Thanks! :)

Oh yeah, so is Windows Virtual PC 7.0 Beta and XP Mode Beta

I'm downloading now as well.. I trust my leak source but I do love an official build! I'm sure it will all be confirmed before I get a chance to install since I'm leaving for work soon but.. good job M$!!

all that's left now is to confirm 100% that it's the same build as the one leaked previously :D

I hope it isn't, cause the leak might've trashed this install... I'm bluescreening like crazy every five minutes. lol

Question about installing this on a Vista laptop. Can I just boot this disk at boot, go through the set up and it will allow me to create another partition on the hard drive so I won't wreck my Vista install and after I'm done trying it out just delete the Windows 7 partition and I get all my space back on my Vista install ?

No, you would have to go into disk management in Vista and shrink the Vista partition there before booting from the DVD. Then when you're done with 7, just delete the partition in Vista and make the Vista partition bigger again. The functionality isn't built into the installer.

Yes, that happens quiet often, when software code leaks.. it tends to target specific aspects of the installers, and trashes it... this is by design..

If someone were to get a hold of this release that wasn't part of the MSDN, is there some way to purchase this? I've been holding off on Vista and would like to jump right to Windows 7.

Erm, this is an unfinished pre-release version, t_r_nelson, it's not the finished Windows 7 so there's nothing to buy. Not only that, but it will even be available for public download on May 5th.

Yep Ive been using the same beta key since January.

(And here I thought I was special and grabbed a couple personal ones before the servers went down, turns out mine are the same keys everyone else has).

Ive been using the leaked RC, from what I can tell it is the exact same, also I never had problems with a BSOD on it.

I downloaded it from a um different source so I got mine.

Just installed, now just gotta get my drivers installed before I can fully test it. Looks nice so far.

Stupid Microsoft. Why can't they prepare for things like this.

Typical of them. It seems to take them ages to learn from past mistakes. Either that or they have very short attention spans and forget that this same thing seems to happen EVERY time they release something like this.

Cool, thanks for the info. Think I'll give it a whirl.
