Is Windows 7 the first to have bi-hourly shutdowns?

I believe so. That definitely caught my eye. I'll try to dig up some more info on this.

So the Beta will shutdown every two hours as well, starting July 1, 2009 (https://partner.microsoft.com/40084742?msp_id=Windows7). I have some messages out there waiting for a response, but my early assumption is that it is a way to force people away from using the Beta/RC and go back to a valid, full version of Windows.

i think the main reason for this is that after vista came out there were a lot of problems with people still using it as their main OS and not ever upgrading it to the full version.

The RC will be valid for a year so there is no point in still running the beta.

Most companies put a kill switch into beta software.
