fix-this!
I was wondering what everyone who is using the RC build as far as an Anti-Virus goes. Also, if you have tried an antivirus that didn't work, please explain. avira antivir premium is the best IMO. i also use comodo firewall, so im pretty well secure. You have to install liveupdate alone first. Then installation will not rollback. :)
bbfc_uk
Norton 360 V3 was finalized and it worked on build 7000 with no problems. I ran the beta prior to V3 becoming gold and I enjoyed the improvements. I am not aware of another beta of the 360. I previously paid for it when they released the version 3 for my Vista machine. Granted I have read NIS works, but I would have to purchase it in order to use it since there is no free trial for it that I am aware of. There isn't another beta, the software went gold as you said. There is a 15-day trial of it, and other Norton products available from the Symantec website - http://www.symantec.com/en/uk/norton/downloads/index.jsp Update: Just read a message on the Norton Forums and Symantec are preparing to release a Beta of 'Norton Internet Secuirty 2009 (16.7) for Windows 7', the current release is 16.5. Apparently there are issues with the current Norton product line-up and Windows 7 32-bit, but they work fine on x64. Just found this website - http://www.symantec.com/norton/theme.jsp?themeid=windows7 Edited May 2, 2009 by bbfc_uk

gregrocker
Avast free home is the lightest weight, least intrusive of the anti-virus solutions. Previously it was a toss up between Avast and AVG free but AVG bloated up in the last edition so now is more in the bloatware category with the paid anti-virus programs. Why would someone pay for bloatware monsters like Norton to slow down their computer when there are free lightweight anti-virus solutions like Avast and Avira? And by lightweight I mean that Avast performs as if it is not there, yet I have never gotten a virus. Edited May 2, 2009 by gregrocker

Have you tired the 2009 Norton product line-up (my guess is you haven't, otherwise you would not of made that comment!), its one of the lightest AV suites around, and installs in seconds! Access Denied
Norton 2009 ran great on Vista and XP for me. Its not bad at all. I just prefer Avira Antivir these days. Step above the rest.

In AVG's defence if you do a custom install you can choose not to install the bloat (Linkscanner, Language Files & email scanner) and you end up with a pretty lean resident scanner and not much else, which is how I like it. astrokat
Does Norton AV 2009 run as good and light as Norton AV 2001, because that is the last one I used on a regular basis .. LOL! We use SAV 10 at work and it misses stuff. :(
astrokat
ROFL!! I just installed Avast and wtf is up with the "VIRUS DATABASE HAS BEEN UPDATED!!" I had my speakers really loud and it just scared the crap out of me. :ermm:
Minifig
It's only temporarily also until the final is released. Then I'm sure if you look for it on 'you know sites', then you will find keys. Avira isn't for a typical user who uses torrents, it gives way too many false positives, whereas Kaspersky rarely does. .. It's free. Forever. They've pulled that restriction. The only thing you have to do is close a window that says "Upgrade." once an hour, or so. It's a great AV, and it doesn't give as many false positives as you'd like to think. H82LUZ
AVG FREE works great on my x86 machine. Have yet to install 7 on my x64 machine. I tried AVG Free 8.5 and Win7 does not like it,It reads it as outdated on X64 .Just a heads up. I am also using Avira free version 9.0 Works Flawless. Tried that but the application still isn't quite up to snuff. I also have to say that after trying out NIS2009 after all the glowing reviews I find it to be the same POS its always been. The AV portion is ok but again they continually suffer from 'everything and the kitchen sink' syndrome. All told though, with the vast majority of AV and antimalware scanners failing so horribly in practice that, as a previous posted noted, there are better solutions coming to the fore. Definition based solutions just aren't worth the headache for me. I'll run without.
