agreenbhm
So I installed the necessary Win 7 update for XP mode and ran the XP Mode vm installer, but I can't get it to work. I launch "Virtual XP" and i am presented with the screen to create a pw for the user. Then, i click next, and am presented with some dialog along the lines of "Cannot write to disk" and then another dialog box pops up. The program then goes on to present me with the information like i'm creating a new VM. I feel i'm not at fault with this problem. It almost appears as if the VHD is corrupt, however, I ran the re-check torrent option, and verified that it was the complete file. I also d/l'd the msi on another machine and compared checksums (b/c i couldn't find the sums online anywhere). I'm very familiar with virtualization, so i tried everything you normally would to get a vm to work. I tried to create a new vm and add the VHD as the hdd, but still, no luck. MY ANALYSIS: While writing this post (I started, then took a break to reinstall Virtual XP so I could quote the error messages verbatim), I got XP mode working. I had originally had Norton Internet Security 2009 installed. This was causing problems, so I uninstalled and installed Kaspersky Win7 technical preview. This had issues as well, so I uninstalled it. I then installed TrendMicro Internet Security. This is having some issues as well, but while having TM installed, I was able to successfully install and run XP Mode. I uninstalled and reinstalled XPM multiple times with both of the prior AV programs installed, so I can only conclude that it was an AV issue. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For those of you that don't want to read all above, if you're not able to successfully run XPM, due to software issues (not lack of hardware requirements), try a different A/V program.
