laq3
I like to use the classic theme in Windows 7, but realized that the "Superbar" doesn't show any previews, rendering it worse than the taskbar vista had. (see pics for what I mean, 1st pic = classic behavior, 2nd pic = behavior that I desire (in aero) ) Is there any way to get window previews under the classic theme? Thanks. booboo
If i'm not mistaken, classic is no theme at all, so I doubt it?

Denis W. Veteran Posted May 2, 2009 Veteran Share Posted May 2, 2009 The thumbnails take advantage of an API that allow it to grab a composited window's output and render it in realtime. Of course this needs the DWM, so they'd have to code in a hack to screenshot windows while using Basic or Classic. But given how relatively few users will encounter Basic or Classic, they won't bother. There are a few freeware taskbar thumbnail utilities out there that emulate this on XP, and I assume also Vista and 7 while using Basic or Classic. Zarpraz
Thought it was dependant on aero/WDDM, same way as mouse overs in Vista don't work in fugly classic mode from what I can remember (not swapping over to check).
O.G
Windows classic and basic themes dont make use of WDDM which is needed to render Aero and the associated desktop effects like glass and whatnot. Window snapping still works becuase it is not part of the desktop compositing, only the glass effect when snapping is.
laq3
Thanks for the help. I'll try to find software that emulate this.

Quillz
or you could do yourself a favor and use aero Some people choose not to use Aero for various reasons. For example, I run the Windows Classic theme on my netbook and virtual machines.
