KeeperOfThePizza
Anyone else notice Windows 7 seems to release cache often?
Subject Delta
How much ram is in your system? If it is below 2GB it will probably cache and release a lot more. I have 4GB of ram in my system, and after the initial bit of caching done when I boot into Windows, I don't really notice it so it may be an issue with your own system. Buendia
And it uses pagefile very often. For example, after system start up and after superfetch does its thing :) many apps I frequently use load fast (Word 2007 loads for couple of seconds). However, after a while it moves some data to pagefile so e.g. Word loads significantly slower, and I can hear my hard drive working and reading data. So, I have disabled pagefile and my apps always load fast :) P.S. I have 2GB of RAM
Subject Delta
Disabling your page file may have a negative performance impact if you run any memory intensive applications, as Superfetch won't have anywhere to unload things to, meaning they will just sit in memory and bog your system down. In fact, even with 4GB of ram I don't disable my paging file, it just hurts performance more than it helps in the long run. I would suggest that if you are having performance issues, your hard disk may not be fast enough.

Yes, I'm aware of that side effect, but my RAM usage rarely exceeds 60% and I haven't really noticed any slowdowns as a result of disabling PF, on a contrary. Currently, it's working just fine without PF, as I noticed, may be even better. Regards!
Chrysaor
I find 7's Superfetch to be much less aggressive compared to Vista. Vista used to cache all of my available memory while 7 barely does any. I think this new behavior is why some people find 7 much responsive. In Vista, even though SF was a background io process, it still decreased a lot of performance especially when system just booted up, it took 5-10 minutes to cache stuff depending on your RAM and speed of hard drive. Personally I am upping my machine to 8GB for the simple reason that ram is just so cheap at this moment in time. Having large amounts of ram is just wonderful, gaming is really smooth even in intensive games with loads of ram. Anyway, glad you have found a solution that works for you :)
Buendia
Yes, if you count online flash games :)
